CARE Volunteer Team Supports the Opening Ceremony of The SPCA Jockey Club Centennial Centre
12/03/2024

Since 2010, the CARE Volunteer Team has closely collaborated with the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Hong Kong) (“SPCA”) to advocate for animal welfare. Through the Cat Colony Care Programme (“CCCP”), the CARE Volunteer Team has made significant contribution to reducing the number of unwanted kittens in the community by capturing and sterilising thousands of stray cats. Additionally, the VolV Team has played a crucial role in supporting the SPCA’s educational and fundraising events to raise awareness and funds for animal welfare.

To enhance the quality of animal care and promote animal welfare education, the Hong Kong Jockey Club, through its Charities Trust, has donated over HK$300 million to the SPCA to establish a new centre in Tsing Yi. Named the SPCA Jockey Club Centennial Centre, this is the SPCA’s first animal welfare and education centre located in the New Territories.

To celebrate the opening of the Centre, a ceremony was held on 12 March 2024.  Ten CARE Volunteers provided on-site logistical assistance for the ceremony. They warmly welcomed guests, facilitated guest tours and helped direct guests to the designated area. Their efforts ensured a smooth and successful ceremony.

Looking ahead to the developments at the Center, the CARE Volunteer Team will continue to support the innovative initiatives of animal services by the SPCA and its public education activities, with the aim of promoting animal welfare and responsible pet ownership.
