The Club has been contributing to the betterment of Hong Kong for over a century, both directly and through The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust.
Through its unique integrated business model and thanks to its strong operational performance the Club is able to contribute substantially. In 2023/24, the Club’s Charities Trust approved a total of HK$10.2 billion in donations to 173 charity and community projects. The Trust is one of the world’s leading charity donors.
Taking into account Hong Kong’s evolving social needs, the Trust's strategic foci in the 2022-5 triennium are: Positive Ageing & Elderly Care, Youth Development & Poverty Alleviation, Healthy Community, Talent & Sector Development and Sports & Culture. In recognition of the importance of sustainable development, the Trust is incubating Sustainability as a sixth funding priority.
To create lasting impact, the Trust has initiated and implemented its own Trust-initiated Projects working in conjunction with the HKSAR Government, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), academia and community partners.
In 2023, the Trust and the Club established the Institute of Philanthropy (IoP) as an independent “think-fund-do” tank for China and Asia, dedicated to promoting philanthropic thought leadership and enhancing sector capabilities at local, regional and global levels in collaboration with fellow funders.
