House of Joy & Mercy Chinese New Year Open Day: Working Together to Promote Animal Adoption
16/02/2024

The CARE Volunteer Team has been actively supporting animal welfare organisations in Hong Kong. As a partner of the House of Joy & Mercy* (“HJM”), the CARE Volunteer Team showed unwavering support during the HJM Chinese New Year Open Day on 16 February 2024. This event provided the public with an opportunity to visit the HJM animal shelter in Ma On Kong.

On the day of the event, around 20 CARE Volunteers participated. They assisted in cleaning and tidying the dog kennels to prepare for the Open Day. Additionally, they helped adorn the dog shelter with festive decorations, creating a joyful Chinese New Year atmosphere and bringing the New Year blessing to all the residents.

Following the cleaning, CARE Volunteers continued their support by assisting with various tasks during the Open Day. They took care of the residents and interacted with the public. The Open Day attracted a continuous stream of visitors, to whom the volunteers promoted and introduced the adoption programme. Numerous adoption inquiries were received throughout the day.

The Open Day was held successfully with great weather. CARE Volunteers were honoured to witness heartwarming moments as dogs and turtles found their new owners. They look forward to more animals at HJM finding their forever homes.

* Established in 2015, HJM aims to provide care and shelter to weak, sterilised and injured animals. HJM organises adoption days from time to time to help animals find their forever homes and offers various free assistance to pet owners who are unable to care for their pets due to health issues. HJM believes that providing care and love to animals is an alternative to animal euthanasia. HJM also participates in different public education initiatives on animal welfare.
