Racing Incident Report
WALKONTHEWILDSIDE began awkwardly, then lost further ground when crowded for room between DYNAMIC and TOP HONOR which on jumping shifted out. In this incident, DYNAMIC became unbalanced after being bumped on the hindquarters and was then taken back. On jumping, GALEN WIN blundered, then got its head up. Making the first turn, GALEN WIN got its head up when being steadied while awkwardly placed inside the heels of GREAT ACHIEVEMENT. After entering the Back Straight, WATCH WHAT HAPPENS was left racing wide and without cover. Also after entering the Back Straight, DYNAMIC, which was proving difficult to settle, was awkwardly placed close to the heels of WALKONTHEWILDSIDE and was steadied. After this, DYNAMIC continued to prove difficult to settle for a considerable distance. On several occasions after entering the Back Straight, GALEN WIN got its head up. GREAT ACHIEVEMENT made the Home Turn awkwardly and was steadied away from the heels of GALEN WIN. When questioned regarding his riding in the early part of the Straight, D Whyte said his mount had been tightened for room rounding the Home Turn. He said after straightening he commenced to ride his mount along to the inside of GALEN WIN and behind SILVER SUN. He said at the 300 Metres he believed he was going to have difficulty obtaining clear running and he therefore steadied his mount to enable him to shift away from the rail behind GALEN WIN and SUNNY GOLF. He said as he did this GALEN WIN commenced to give ground when SUNNY GOLF went forward of it. He said when GALEN WIN was giving ground, it shifted out and he therefore remained racing inside that horse and then resumed riding his mount out. He said GREAT ACHIEVEMENT closed the race off strongly. When questioned., D Beadman (SUNNY GOLF) said it was anticipated SILVER SUN and GALEN WIN would go forward in the early stages. He said if he was able to obtain the lead without riding his mount along, it was acceptable to do so, otherwise it was felt the horse would be best suited taking a sit. He said previously when SUNNY GOLF had had pressure applied to it in the early stages, the horse had proved difficult to settle. He said SUNNY GOLF does not seem to run out the strong 1650 Metres when it over-races and at the horse’s only success over the distance it took a sit after entering the Back Straight. He said SUNNY GOLF travelled comfortably in the run tonight, switched out on entering the Straight and responded well to his riding, however, its run ended short of the line. SUNNY GOLF, SILVER SUN and WATCH WHAT HAPPENS were sent for sampling.
