Racing Incident Report
VICTORY STYLE, Standby Declared Starter, was withdrawn on 24.2.09 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore). Before being allowed to race again, VICTORY STYLE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Shortly after the start, YOUNG HERO was crowded for room between LOCAL POWER and CRYSTAL. At the 1300 Metres, HOLD HANDS was checked when crowded for room between ANKH MORPORK and YOUNG HERO which initially was carried in by LOCAL POWER (C W Wong) which after shifting in of its own accord and initiating the crowding was then not able to shift back out due to LUMINOUS shifting across to race on its outside. In the circumstances, C W Wong was severely reprimanded and told to exercise greater care. K L Chui (LUMINOUS) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that after the 1100 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of LOCAL POWER, causing that horse to be carried in and in turn caused crowding on its inside to YOUNG HERO and ANKH MORPORK, both of which were unnecessarily hampered and lost the running to which they were rightfully entitled. K L Chui was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday 16 March 2009 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting on Wednesday 4 March 2009. In addition, K L Chui was fined $10,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating 1 further raceday. Near the 800 Metres, LOCAL POWER was steadied away from the heels of LUMINOUS. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, HOLD HANDS was crowded for room inside YOUNG HERO. Prior to straightening, HOLD HANDS was steadied away from the heels of ANKH MORPORK. C W Wong was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that shortly after straightening he shifted his mount in when not clear of HOLD HANDS, causing that horse to be carried in, strike the hind legs of ANKH MORPORK and lose its rightful running. As a result of this incident, ANKH MORPORK became badly unbalanced behind and when being eased out of the race shifted out across the running of LOCAL POWER which was checked. C W Wong was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday 16 March 2009 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting on Saturday 7 March 2009. In addition, C W Wong was fined $10,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating 1 further raceday. For the majority of the race, HIGH INTELLIGENT travelled wide and without cover. ANKH MORPORK and LOCAL POWER were sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, ANKH MORPORK was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse had sustained abrasions to the right hock as a result of being galloped on. Before being allowed to race again, ANKH MORPORK will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of LOCAL POWER after the race did not show any significant findings. SOLAR POWER and BUTTERFIELD were sent for sampling.
