Throughout the race, HEADINGLEY travelled wide and without cover and making the turn after the 800 Metres hung out. Making the Home Turn, FREEBIRD hung out. From the 300 Metres until after the 200 Metres, GRAND GENERAL had difficulty obtaining clear running. When questioned regarding the poor performance of NEWSWIRE TOO, D Whyte was not able to offer any explanation. NEWSWIRE TOO was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of NEWSWIRE TOO after the race did not show any significant findings. G Mossé (PRIMIATA) said he was required to make some use of his mount in the early stages to obtain a position in front of midfield. He said PRIMIATA travelled satisfactorily until near the 500 Metres. He said prior to straightening he placed PRIMIATA under pressure, the horse did not respond to his riding and then near the 300 Metres became unbalanced in its action. He said after this he did not persevere in riding PRIMIATA out as he felt something might be amiss with the horse. PRIMIATA was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of PRIMIATA after the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, PRIMIATA will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Following the race, Mr B K Ng, trainer of GRAND GENERAL, reported the horse had shifted its right front plate. GRAND GENERAL, MOSHI MOSHI and FRAMES DEPOT were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported LEADER had lost its right front plate.
