Racing Incident Report

NOBLE SILENCE was slow to begin. On jumping, PRESENT TREASURE was crowded for room between CRYSTAL and LE ROSSIGNOL which shifted out. Also on jumping, CLASSIC REUNION bumped with KOWLOON FIT and then shortly afterwards was taken across behind runners. Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, BRILLIANT ONE was steadied and shifted across to obtain a position with cover. Passing the 800 Metres, LE ROSSIGNOL got its head on the side and shifted out. After the 600 Metres, BRILLIANT ONE was steadied to avoid the heels of HAPPY CRUSADER which itself steadied to avoid the heels of ADD THE FUN which at this time was momentarily steadied away from the heels of LE ROSSIGNOL. Approaching the Home Turn, PRESENT TREASURE was shifted to the outside of LIAOBUQI which was giving ground. After this, PRESENT TREASURE hung out. For the major part of the Straight, BRILLIANT ONE had difficulty obtaining clear running and at the 150 Metres was checked to avoid the heels of KOWLOON FIT which at this time was giving ground. Also at the 150 Metres, CLASSIC REUNION was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of SOLAR POWER. D Whyte (KOWLOON FIT) explained because a number of horses going forward in the early stages assured the race was run at a strong tempo, he was required to make more use of KOWLOON FIT than he wished to avoid being caught wide on the track. He said as a consequence KOWLOON FIT failed to finish the race off. C K Tong (LIAOBUQI) said he had been instructed to endeavour to lead if possible, however, when a number of horses went forward, he was obliged to travel wide throughout and as a consequence LIAOBUQI gave ground from the 500 Metres. He said in his opinion even given the circumstances of the tough run LIAOBUQI had endured, the horse was not entitled to commence to give ground at this point of the race, however, he was unable to offer any explanation for it having done so. The performance of LIAOBUQI, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, LIAOBUQI will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. KOWLOON FIT and LIAOBUQI were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of KOWLOON FIT and LIAOBUQI after the race did not show any significant findings. SOLAR POWER, NOBLE SILENCE and AWARD were sent for sampling.
