Racing Incident Report
When being led to the Parade Ring, NEW MILESTONE shifted its left hind plate. This plate was re-set. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. GOOD HEART was slow to begin. GREAT LEADER began awkwardly, became unbalanced, shifted out and bumped with SMART CHIEF. For some distance approaching and passing the 1300 Metres, NOBLE WIND, which was proving difficult to settle, got its head up when awkwardly placed inside the heels of NEW MILESTONE. VROOM VROOM, which was following NOBLE WIND and also proving difficult to settle, got its head up in consequence. Making the turn at the 700 Metres, HAPPY CONTENDER became unbalanced. Making the Home Turn, NOBLE WIND hung out. From near the 300 Metres until the 200 Metres, MAGIC TOUCH was steadied when held up and unable to improve inside VROOM VROOM which at this time was giving ground. As a consequence of this, MAGIC TOUCH was not properly tested. Near the 200 Metres, GREAT LEADER was steadied when disappointed for running between NEW MILESTONE and CHINA WORLD. Apprentice C W Wong (CHINA WORLD) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 200 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of GREAT LEADER, causing that horse to lose its rightful running, be steadied and shift out, as a result of which GREAT LEADER clipped the heels of CHINA WORLD and blundered. Apprentice Wong was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday 5 May 2005 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Happy Valley racemeeting next Wednesday 20 April 2005. At the 200 Metres, FORTUNE DANCER was bumped by GOOD HEART which was carried out slightly by SMART HORSE. Near the winning post, GREAT LEADER was steadied when crowded for room between PRINCE GOLF and CHINA WORLD which shifted out. E Saint-Martin (PRINCE GOLF) explained passing the 900 Metres he was racing in a two wide position, as a result of which GREAT LEADER was obliged to race three wide. He said PRINCE GOLF was not travelling well underneath him and to have held that position would have required him to make some use of the horse. He said he believed it to be in the best interest of PRINCE GOLF to allow the horse to come back a little and travel more comfortably. He said as a consequence of this GREAT LEADER was able to shift to a two wide position in front of him. NOBLE WIND was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of NOBLE WIND after the race did not show any significant findings. VROOM VROOM was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. After the race, VROOM VROOM was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was displaying an irregular heart beat. As this was the second occasion on which VROOM VROOM had been reported to be displaying an irregular heart beat, the horse will now be compulsorily retired. SMART HORSE and SMART CHIEF were sent for sampling.
