Racing Incident Report
RISING WIN was slow to begin. PURPLE GOLD began awkwardly and then shortly afterwards was checked when crowded for room between JUST TOO GOOD and STOIC (C Soumillon) which shifted in. C Soumillon was severely reprimanded and told to exercise more care. Making the first turn, FORTUNE LAD hung out. This caused some inconvenience to GLORIOUS LIGHT which was racing to its outside. On straightening, GLORIOUS LIGHT was steadied to avoid the heels of FORTUNE LAD (S Dye) which shifted out when not properly clear. S Dye was reprimanded and told to exercise greater care. Near the 200 Metres, CAPABEL (W M Lai) shifted out. As a result of this, HIGH PRICE was carried wider. STOIC, which was following HIGH PRICE, was steadied away from the heels of that horse and shifted in. Over the concluding stages, CAPABEL continued to shift out, causing inconvenience to STOIC which as a result was not ridden out to the end of the race as it normally would be. W M Lai was advised in similar circumstances he would be expected to stop riding and straighten his mount. Almost right on the winning post, FORTUNE LAD was steadied when racing tight inside KING OF SPADES. In the Straight, PURPLE GOLD hung in and proved difficult to ride. When questioned, Apprentice H W Lai (FORTUNE DANCER) said he had been instructed to improve his position if possible along the Back Straight. He said because of this after entering the Back Straight he remained in a three wide position despite having the opportunity to race in a two wide position to ensure he was able to ride his horse along to go forward from after the 800 Metres. He said approaching the turn at the 600 Metres FORTUNE DANCER which had not responded to his riding as he would have liked got its head on the side, shifted in and caused crowding to RAINBOW DIAMOND which had been improving to his inside. He said after this he shifted FORTUNE DANCER to the outside of FANTASTIC WIN and the horse then commenced to lay out. HIGH PRICE, JUST TOO GOOD and RAINBOW DIAMOND were sent for sampling.
