Racing Incident Report
SEASONS KNACK, which was standing awkwardly, stood flat-footed and lost a considerable amount of ground at the start. FORTUNE DANCER bounded in the air at the start. Shortly after the start, CENTURY HORSE was momentarily steadied away from the heels of GOOD WIN which shifted in when not quite clear. After the 1400 Metres ARROGANCE was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of GOOD WIN and tight inside CENTURY HORSE. At the 800 Metres, STOIC, which was proving difficult to settle, was steadied away from the heels of SMART CHIEF. W Smith (CENTURY HORSE) explained he had been instructed to ride the horse either in front or with the speed if possible. He said Mr T W Leung, the trainer of CENTURY HORSE, had advised him the horse was one-paced and in his opinion would be best suited if ridden in this manner. Apprentice K T Yeung (STEP FORWARD) explained from the outside barrier he was obliged to race wide and without cover for most of the race. He said after the 700 Metres, SMART CHIEF endeavoured to shift out on his inside and he rode hard in an attempt to hold that horse behind DANEFACTOR to avoid being forced to cover extra ground. He said as he was endeavouring to hold SMART CHIEF in, his saddle shifted to the right hand side, SMART CHIEF was then able to shift out into clear running. He said in the Straight because of his saddle having shifted, he was at a disadvantage and was not able to ride his horse out as he normally would. The explanation submitted by Apprentice Yeung was accepted. STEP FORWARD was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of STEP FORWARD after the race did not show any significant findings. SMART CHIEF, SURE FIT and ARROGANCE were sent for sampling.
