Racing Incident Report

ME AND YOU, second Standby Declared Starter, was withdrawn on 2.6.03 on veterinary grounds (right fore suspensory ligament injury). Before being allowed to race again, ME AND YOU will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. On jumping, HIGHLIGHT got its head up and lost ground. HURRY UP began awkwardly and as a consequence lost ground. From the outside barrier, ANIMATED PLAYTHING was ridden to go forward, was unable to cross runners to its inside and raced three wide without cover outside the lead. Near the 700 Metres, BELLAGIO, which had attempted to shift away from the fence and from behind CHAMPION RANGER, was steadied when disappointed for running between that horse and OPTIC CHIEF which was racing tight inside the heels of NEW CENTURY. SMART HORSE, which was following, was steadied in consequence. For some distance after this, BELLAGIO was unable to improve its position when held up for running behind CHAMPION RANGER and inside OPTIC CHIEF. On straightening, HURRY UP, which had been held up, was checked when endeavouring to obtain a run on the outside of CHINESESPORT GLORY which commenced to give ground and inside TABBRIS where there was insufficient room. After this, HURRY UP shifted to the inside of CHINESESPORT GLORY to obtain clear runnning. When shifting back in, HURRY UP was not quite clear of CHAMPION RANGER which had commenced to improve to its inside. This caused CHAMPION RANGER to be steadied. Shortly after straightening, CHARMING STRIDE blundered after clipping the heels of ANIMATED PLAYTHING which was giving ground. Over the concluding stages, INDY'S GEM shifted out. TABBRIS was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, TABBRIS, which after racing with the lead gave ground shortly after straightening and finished tailed off, was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said there were no significant findings, however, he noted the horse had lost its left hind plate. The performance of TABBRIS was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, it will be required to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. HURRY UP, SMART HORSE and INDY'S GEM were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported HURRY UP and ANIMATED PLAYTHING had bled from both nostrils.
