Racing Incident Report
CLAWS OF THUNDER was withdrawn on 14.4.03 on veterinary grounds (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter INDIAN FIRE POWER (Apprentice P H Lo). Before being permitted to race again, CLAWS OF THUNDER will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. G Mossé (JOIN SUCCESS) was fined $2,000 for returning to scale 2 lbs in excess of his declared weight. PRINCELY HORSE began awkwardly and shortly after the start was steadied when crowded for room between JOIN SUCCESS and ACTIVE ACCOUNT which was carried out by CHAMPION RANGER. ACE ACADEMY began awkwardly and was steadied when crowded for room between QUEEN'S GLORY and HAPPY ECLIPSE, both of which shifted ground. Making the first turn, INDIAN FIRE POWER got its head up when being steadied while following SMART CHIEF. Near the 400 Metres, INDIAN FIRE POWER was momentarily crowded for room by GOLDCHIN BEST which was awkwardly placed close to the heels of QUEENS' GLORY which was giving ground. Shortly after straightening, TWEET was momentarily steadied when crowded for room between ACTIVE ACCOUNT and ACE ACADEMY, both of which shifted ground. Near the 200 Metres, HAPPY ECLIPSE was shifted out away from the heels of SILVER JET. In the Straight, SILVER JET hung out and proved difficult to ride. The performance of QUEEN'S GLORY, which tailed out, was considered unacceptable. QUEEN'S GLORY was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of QUEEN'S GLORY after the race did not reveal any significant findings. Before being permitted to race again, QUEEN'S GLORY will be required to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. C Williams (PRODIGY), which preformed poorly, explained at no stage of the race did the horse stride out despite his riding and in the Straight he did not persevere as he was concerned with its action. PRODIGY was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, PRODIGY was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was displaying a heart irregularity. Before being permitted to race again, PRODIGY will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. S Dye (ACE ACADEMY) said the horse was crowded at the start, then immediately relaxed and raced at the rear as is usual. He said the fact that he became detached by about 4 lengths from the field was not of concern as the horse has previously raced with success when ridden in this manner. He said shortly after entering the Back Straight, he was aware the horse he was following, PRODIGY, would not carry him forward as he had hoped, so he shifted to its outside. He said usually ACE ACADEMY is able to make ground and tack onto the field before the 800 Metres, however, today it was reluctant to do so and in his opinion this was further accentuated by the fact the pace of the race did not steady in the middle stages. He said at the 800 Metres he commenced to ride ACE ACADEMY along to improve its position and the horse finished the race off strongly as it usually does. ACE ACADEMY, SMART CHIEF and CHAMPION RANGER were sent for sampling.
