Racing Incident Report

After arriving at the Start, G Mossé expressed concern with the action of DEEP PURPLE. DEEP PURPLE was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon, was trotted up and after the necessary consultations was considered suitable to race. On jumping, BLACK CARBINE and LUCKY FRIENDS bumped. FORTUNE DANCER began awkwardly and got its head up. Near the 2000 Metres, MEMBERS GLORY, which was laying in, was steadied when crowded for room between ENORMOUS WAY and EXCEPTIONAL. At the 2000 Metres, DEEP PURPLE and ENORMOUS WAY were steadied when crowded for room inside EXCEPTIONAL (M Kinane). In the circumstances, M Kinane was severely reprimanded and advised to leave more racing room for runners to his inside. At the 1900 Metres, BLACK CARBINE was checked when crowded for room by DRAGON WIN which initially got its head on the side and shifted in away from FLORAL DANCER before being momentarily taken in further by that horse. FLORAL DANCER was immediately shifted out to relieve this pressure. In the circumstances, it was decided no action would be taken. Near the 1200 Metres, MEMBERS GLORY was steadied to avoid the heels of HAPPY FORTUNE which shifted out to a position behind CUPID. At the 700 Metres, DRAGON WIN was steadied when disappointed for running between FLORAL DANCER and EXCEPTIONAL. At the 600 Metres, LUCKY FRIENDS was crowded for room and bumped the running rail when tight inside DRAGON WIN which got its head on the side and shifted in away from EXCEPTIONAL. After the 600 Metres, LUCKY FRIENDS and DRAGON WIN were momentarily crowded for room by EXCEPTIONAL which shifted in when barely clear. S Dye (LUCKY FRIENDS) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that on the Home Turn he shifted his mount out when not clear of DRAGON WIN, causing that horse to be taken out and in turn caused crowding on its outside to BLACK CARBINE which as a result shifted out across the running of ENORMOUS WAY, causing that horse to be severely checked when taken out onto the hindquarters of FORTUNE DANCER which became badly unbalanced. In the circumstances, S Dye was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday 27 March 2003 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong race days). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the meeting at Sha Tin next Saturday 15 March 2003. Over the concluding stages, BLACK CARBINE hung in. Apprentice M W Leung (BIA DESERT) explained he had been instructed by Trainer L Ho to lead tonight if possible in view of the horse having drawn barrier 1, only having to carry 110 lbs and the anticipated lack of pace in the race. Trainer L Ho confirmed the riding instructions issued to Apprentice M W Leung. He added these instructions were arrived at in consultation with the owner. MEMBERS GLORY was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, MEMBERS GLORY was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No significant findings were made. DEEP PURPLE, FLORAL DANCER and CUPID were sent for sampling.
