Racing Incident Report
On jumping, MILLENNIUM SPIRIT got its head up. At the 1200 Metres, KEEN MARSHAL became unbalanced and shifted out. This caused some inconvenience to MODERN PROSPECT. At the 600 Metres, KEEN MARSHAL was carried wider by GOOD NEWS. After the 600 Metres, DON SEBASTIAN was steadied when momentarily crowded by RESOURCEFUL PRINCE which shifted in away from MODERN PROSPECT which had shifted to the inside of the heels of HIGH SPIRITS which was giving ground. Shortly after straightening, DON SEBASTIAN was steadied when disappointed for running between GOOD NEWS and ABLE WIN. In the early part of the Straight, MILLENNIUM SPIRIT was held up and unable to obtain clear running when racing behind GOOD NEWS which commenced to give ground. Over the concluding stages, ABLE WIN hung in and proved somewhat difficult to ride out. Because of this, D Whyte, its rider, was not able to ride ABLE WIN out to the line as he normally would. Throughout the race, HIGH SPIRITS was obliged to race wide without cover and commenced to give ground near the 600 Metres. W C Marwing (BOLD VISION) was unable to explain the poor performance of the horse. He said he enjoyed a nice run in a forward position, however, BOLD VISION was well beaten a long way from home and commenced to give ground at the 500 Metres. He said he had been riding BOLD VISION in its work leading up to tonight's race and this work included two official barrier trials, the first of which in his opinion was good and the second only satisfactory. He said following the race, BOLD VISION pulled up well. BOLD VISION was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. A veterinary examination of BOLD VISION after the race did not show any significant findings. HIGH SPIRITS was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, HIGH SPIRITS was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No abnormalities were detected. KEEN MARSHAL and RESOURCEFUL PRINCE were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Report (released on 13 Feb. 2003) :
A veterinary examination of BOLD VISION, which performed poorly, immediately after the race did not show any significant findings. When BOLD VISION was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer L Fownes this morning, it was noted the horse was mildly stiff in the right front leg. The Senior Veterinary Officer said the significance of this in terms of the performance of BOLD VISION is doubtful. Before BOLD VISION can race again, it will be required to pass an official veterinary examination.
