Racing Incident Report

From a gate towards the outside, EASY STAR was steadied and taken across behind the field to a position closer to the rail. At the 1000 Metres, HIGHLIGHT was steadied and shifted out to avoid the heels of HAPPY HARVEST which itself was steadied away from SINCERE AND FAITH. At the 800 Metres, HIGHLIGHT, which was pulling and proving difficult to settle, was steadied after improving into a position between HAPPY HARVEST and FAIRY TALE where there was insufficient room. After the 600 Metres, SINCERE AND FAITH was awkwardly placed inside the heels of BRAVO VICTORY and tight outside STAR WARRIOR which was shifting to the outside of JAMIESON to improve. Approaching the winning post, H K Yim (SUGAR AND SPICE) momentarily dropped his near side rein. W C Marwing (HOLY QUEST) explained just prior to the start being effected, his mount lunged forward, struck the front gates of its barrier with its head, consequently began very awkwardly and lost ground. After this, HOLY QUEST got its head up on the first turn when close to the heels of STAR WARRIOR, however, obtained a nice position midfield, then failed to finish its race off as anticipated. He said in his opinion HOLY QUEST may not have backed up from its run at Sha Tin last Saturday. HAPPY HARVEST and HOLY QUEST were sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing. The Veterinary Surgeon reported that following the race HOLY QUEST was making an abnormal respiratory noise. An endoscopic examination revealed a small amount of blood in the windpipe. He also reported that when he examined HAPPY HARVEST following the race, the horse was displaying a heart irregularity. Before being allowed to race again, HAPPY HARVEST will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
