Racing Incident Report

Whilst parading, the tongue tie fitted to UNCONDITIONAL LOVE came off. The horse was returned to the saddling area and the tongue tie refitted. UNCONDITIONAL LOVE left the gates awkwardly, threw its head about and lost considerable ground. ALLEZ ALLEZ left the gates awkwardly and just after the start made contact with FLYING MAGIC. After this incident ALLEZ ALLEZ got its head up, shifted out abruptly to the outside fence and was pulled up. Mr S T Wong, trainer of ALLEZ ALLEZ, was told the performance of the horse was unacceptable and before it can race again, it will have to perform satisfactorily in two official barrier trials, one of which must be at Happy Valley over 1700 Metres. At the conclusion of the inquiry into the performance of ALLEZ ALLEZ, Trainer S T Wong was told he must give more straightforward evidence at inquiries. In the early stages, FLYING MAGIC pulled hard, over-raced and proved very difficult to settle. In the run to the winning post, BORN SMART had a tendency to shift out and race close inside OPTIC CHIEF. Because of this at one stage W C Marwing stopped riding and straightened. When questioned, R Fradd (CHIEF'S FORTUNE) said the intention was to always ride the horse back tonight and he did say when he rode CHIEF'S FORTUNE at its last start and improved on the inside the horse was reluctant to take openings. Before tonight's race he suggested to the trainer that it would probably be in the best interests of CHIEF'S FORTUNE to improve on the outside when making his run. He said in the early stages he was aware the race was being run slowly, CHIEF'S FORTUNE was well back and hard on the bit. He said he realised entering the Back Straight he was too far out of his ground on a horse such as this in this class of race. However, he said he was just inside the hindquarters of WINNING SUPREME and to go forward he would have had to push WINNING SUPREME from its ground and in the circumstances he was reluctant to do this. He acknowledged half way along the Back Straight there was for a short time a run which would have taken him up behind FLYING MAGIC and outside WIN IT ALL, but the run was available for only a short time and he felt he had little alternative but to steady behind WINNING SUPREME and eventually improved out wide as intended. He said at about the 500 Metres he shifted to the outside of WINNING SUPREME and almost immediately realised he had given CHIEF'S FORTUNE too much to do. He said in the Straight when under full pressure CHIEF'S FORTUNE had a tendency to get its head on the side and hang in. R Fradd was reprimanded for a ride which he was told bordered on being unacceptable. He was advised for a rider of his standing he had gone very close tonight to setting CHIEF'S FORTUNE an absolutely impossible task and he will be expected to ride at all times in such a manner which leaves no room whatsoever for query. CHIEF'S FORTUNE was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing. After the race, Mr D Oughton, trainer of UNCONDITIONAL LOVE, asked the Veterinary Surgeon to check the horse's heart rate. The Veterinary Surgeon said so far as he was concerned the heart rate of UNCONDITIONAL LOVE was normal, the horse was trotted up sound, however, he did notice there was blood in the near side of the horse's mouth probably from having loosened a tooth.
