Racing Incident Report

MANOR STAR left the gates awkwardly with its head up, shifted in and made contact with the hindquarters of JUMBO LUCK. On jumping, HOLY QUEST and GOLD FLASK came together. EVERWELL FOREVER left the gates with its head up. About the 1000 Metres, LUCKY MEANINGS, which was proving difficult to settle, got its head up and shifted out from behind SOUNDS GOOD. Also about the 1000 Metres, GOLD FLASK, which was pulling, got its head up and became unbalanced when close to the heels of VIKING DANCER. About the 300 Metres, DARLEY was checked rather severely when disappointed for running inside FORTUNE RIVER which was giving ground. About 100 Metres out, CHEVAL D'OR became unbalanced and changed course to avoid PRETTY BABY. In the run to the winning post, MANOR STAR, which was finishing the race off quite well, was unable to obtain running between LUCKY MEANINGS and VIKING DANCER. S Dye (EXPRESS LOT) explained the horse has a history of getting back in its races even over more ground than that of today's event. He said however before the race he did say to the trainer that the way in which EXPRESS LOT had been working he had hoped the horse would be somewhere about the middle or little better and close to the rail. He said EXPRESS LOT left the gates well, he then rode along in an endeavour to find a position somewhere in the first half behind CHEVAL D'OR, but was unable to hold this position and at about the 800 Metres allowed DARLEY to cross and travel in front of him. He said at this stage he had to allow EXPRESS LOT time to find its feet. S Dye went on to say in the Straight he experienced some difficulty of obtaining clear running, initially having to shift out from behind DARLEY then when making ground had to shift in abruptly to avoid LUCKY MEANINGS just after the 200 Metres and after this EXPRESS LOT found the line satisfactorily. EXPRESS LOT was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing. After the race, it was reported that BAYVIEW KING was bleeding from both nostrils.
