Racing Incident Report
CHIU CHOW BROTHER left the gates awkwardly, shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of REBEL LEADER. In the early stages, due mainly to the pace, CHIU CHOW BROTHER and RED DEVIL were unbalanced and threw their heads about. Near the 800 Metres, DON SEBASTIAN was checked when disappointed for running between RED DEVIL and BILLION DELIGHT. About the 300 Metres, a plastic bag was thrown from the crowd from the public area of the race track onto the course proper. The object landed on the rump of BILLION DELIGHT. E Legrix (EVER GLORY) explained he had been riding the horse in its work of recent time, its last gallop before today's race was very encouraging and it was anticipated that EVER GLORY would run an improved race today although for the horse to win as it did was a surprise. He said the instructions were from an outside gate to try and ride the horse somewhere off the pace. However, he said EVER GLORY jumped well, immediately got on the bit and because the pace of the race was slightly slower than anticipated, he allowed EVER GLORY to run along to the front where he said the horse was unchallenged, travelled comfortably, on straightening quickened and found the line well. He did point out recently when ridden by an Apprentice, EVER GLORY had travelled in front, but weakened over the concluding stages. However, he did acknowledge today EVER GLORY was much fitter than it was that day. The explanations submitted by E Legrix were considered to be acceptable. R Fradd (AUCASH) said shortly after the start he allowed HAPPY CHAMP to cross him, then HAPPY CHAMP did not go on and AUCASH proved very difficult for him to settle. He then was obliged to race in a somewhat awkward position behind HAPPY CHAMP and inside the hindquarters of HIGH SKY. He went on to say when HIGH SKY went forward, CHIU CHOW BROTHER improved to be racing on his outside, then on straightening when he did shift out, AUCASH was not able to quicken to run into the race and he was of the view the somewhat disappointing run could be attributed primarily to the pace of the race in the early and middle stages. AUCASH was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
