Racing Incident Report

The Stewards dismissed an objection lodged by E Legrix, the rider of LYPHARD'S LAD, which finished 6th, against CHINESESPORT GLORY (D Whyte) being declared the winner. E Legrix had alleged interference to his mount turning out of the Straight the first time. The Stewards considered that whilst LYPHARD'S LAD did clip the heels of CHINESESPORT GLORY and knuckled turning out of the Straight the first time, they did not consider, bearing in mind the considerable margin between the two horses at the finish, that the material extent of the interference justified an alteration of the Judge's placings. Further they were, at this time, not satisfied that the interference caused to LYPHARD'S LAD was entirely the responsibility of CHINESESPORT GLORY. Accordingly the placings as semaphored by the Judge were confirmed. In all the circumstances of this case, the Stewards decided that the objection lodged by E Legix against CHINESESPORT GLORY was not merited. They therefore decided that the deposit be forfeited. E Legrix was further advised that the objection had bordered on being frivolous. G Mossé (GREAT CHIEF) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding. The careless riding being that turning out of the Straight the first time he allowed his mount to shift in when not clear of CHINESESPORT GLORY. As a consequence of this, CHINESESPORT GLORY was carried across the running LYPHARD'S LAD, causing that horse to strike the heels of CHINESESPORT GLORY and knuckled. After taking full account of all the evidence and the submissions made by G Mossé in this case including a strong plea from him that he be permitted to fulfil a firm commitment for an important owner in France on Sunday, the Stewards decided in this case the appropriate penalty was that his licence to ride be suspended for a period to expire on Thursday, 14 December 2000 on which day he may resume race riding. In addition to this, the Stewards fined G Mossé $30,000. The commencement of the suspension is to take immediate effect. S Dye (NOBLE CHARGE) said the horse in the past has had a tendency to miss the start, today from the outside gate it was decided if NOBLE CHARGE jumps, to go ahead and race in a forward position. He said NOBLE CHARGE jumped satisfactorily, he endeavoured to go forward, but was obliged to race wide and the horse was beaten a long way out. On pulling up, NOBLE CHARGE was making abnormal breathing noises. In all the circumstances, the Stewards decided that before NOBLE CHARGE be allowed to race again, it will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subject to an official veterinary examination. GREAT CHIEF was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
