Racing Incident Report
After being boxed, the tongue tie fitted to TABBRIS loosened. The horse was removed from its stall for the tongue tie to be refitted. However, TABBRIS proved somewhat difficult to manage and as the entire field had been loaded with several runners being fractious and to avoid causing an unreasonable delay, the Stewards acting in accordance with the powers granted to them by Stewards' Instruction 5(vii) allowed TABBRIS to race without its tongue tie. PACIFIC ALLIANCE was slow to begin, then shifted out abruptly. After passing the winning post on the first occasion, CONNOISSEUR'S LOVE was steadied when crowded for room inside SUNRISE RAINBOW (W M Lai) which had been hard ridden to improve inside the heels of FORTUNE BOY which initially had been clear of that horse. W M Lai was severely reprimanded and told his riding on this occasion bordered on breaching a serious Rule. After the 1200 Metres, CONNOISSEUR'S LOVE was steadied when crowded for room inside CLASSA WIN which shifted in after being momentarily awkwardly placed inside the heels of WINNING KEVIN which got its head on the side and shifted in. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, PHOENIX FORTUNE was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of CONNOISSEUR'S LOVE. For some distance approaching and passing the 400 Metres, PHOENIX FORTUNE was held up and unable to improve when racing close to the heels of CONNOISSEUR'S LOVE and inside CORAJOSO. At the 250 Metres, CORAJOSO was steadied and shifted to the outside of CAPITALAND to continue going forward. For the major part of the race, LUCKY STALLION raced wide and without cover. When questioned, O Chavez (CAPITALAND) said he had been instructed from a wide barrier to ride the horse in a rearward position. The Stewards will interview Mr S Woods, the trainer of CAPITALAND, regarding the riding instructions issued to O Chavez at the Sha Tin Racecourse next Saturday 21 May 2005. Following the running of this race, O Chavez weighed in at 117 lbs, 2 lbs over his declared riding weight. The Stewards accepted the explanation of O Chavez that after racing in a rearward position on the wet track he returned to scale with a significant amount of mud on his equipment. WINNING KEVIN and CONNOISSEUR'S LOVE were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of WINNING KEVIN and CONNOISSEUR'S LOVE after the race did not show any significant findings. SUNRISE RAINBOW, FORTUNE BOY and PHOENIX FORTUNE were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 19 May 2005)
CONNOISSEUR'S LOVE, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. CONNOISSEUR'S LOVE was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer D Oughton this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to have an injury to the right eye.
