Racing Incident Report

After being boxed, LIVERBIRD became unbalanced and lunged forward. When the gates opened, LIVERBIRD was slow to begin. LUCKY TRIO began awkwardly. Near the 800 Metres, BOLD FIGHTER shifted in, brushed the hindquarters of SHERIFF BAMBOO which as a result shifted out, causing BOLD FIGHTER to be carried wider. In the middle stages, LUCKY TRIO hung out and shortly after straightening when giving ground was steadied as a result of being crowded between OPERA MAGIC and BOLD FIGHTER which shifted in after making contact with STRIKE TO WIN. No action was taken. S Sanders (BOLD FIGHTER) said he had been instructed to ride the horse behind the leaders if possible as it was anticipated the pace of the race would be strong. He said BOLD FIGHTER began exceptionally well, he did not ride along in an attempt to let horses which had drawn to his inside go forward to allow him the opportunity to ride the horse as instructed. He said in the middle stages he was carried wider when LUCKY TRIO hung out. TRUST ME and ROYAL VICTORY were sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, TRUST ME was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, TRUST ME will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After the race, ROYAL VICTORY was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was lame in the right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, ROYAL VICTORY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SHERIFF BAMBOO and OPERA MAGIC were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported LIVERBIRD had blood present at the right nostril, however, an endoscopic examination showed the horse's trachea to be clean and therefore LIVERBIRD was not deemed to have bled. Before being allowed to race again, LIVERBIRD will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. An inquiry was opened into the running and riding of TRUST ME. Evidence was taken from Jockey C Williams and Mr P F Yiu, the trainer of the horse. The inquiry was adjourned to a date and time to be fixed.
