Racing Incident Report

GANBARIA STAR, which was not standing well, missed the start and shortly afterwards was awkward on the heels of SPEEDY CHAMPION. On jumping, LUCKY VICTORIES was checked when crowded between CHIEF IVOR and LION ROCK which left the gates awkwardly and shifted out. About the 900 Metres, NANNING TREASURE was steadied when tightened for room between LUCKY VICTORIES and CONSENSUS which shifted in slightly. W C Marwing (LION ROCK) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)]. The careless riding being that after the 200 Metres he allowed his mount to shift out from behind SPEEDY CHAMPION in an endeavour to find running and in doing so bumped LUCKY VICTORIES, causing that horse to be unnecessarily hampered and become unbalanced. After taking into account all the circumstances and submissions put by W C Marwing, the Stewards were of the opinion the appropriate penalty was for his licence to ride in races be suspended until Sunday 4 November 2001 on which day he may resume race racing (3 Hong Kong race days). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the meeting next Sunday at Sha Tin. Throughout the event, CHARIOT OF STORM raced greenly and hung out badly. After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon said he noted CHARIOT OF STORM was making a respiratory noise. Subsequent to the race, it was noted CONSENSUS had sustained abrasions to its off side hind cannon.
