Racing Incident Report
UNCONDITIONAL LOVE left the gates awkwardly. Near the 1200 Metres, UNCONDITIONAL LOVE brushed the running rail. About the 1000 Metres, SUPREME PARTNERS and CHIEF'S FORTUNE came together. About the 600 Metres, CHIEF'S FORTUNE shifted in slightly and bumped the hindquarters of STORM BOY. Near the 200 Metres, SUPREME PARTNERS was shifted in abruptly to avoid NATURAL CLASSIC. When being shifted, SUPREME PARTNERS was momentarily unbalanced. During the race, the saddle on MEGA-FIGHTER shifted back. The Stewards allowed Mr T P Wong, Trainer of RED COMMANDER, an opportunity of explaining the horse's improved performance tonight when compared with its last start at Sha Tin on 4 April 2001. Mr Wong said he was out of the country for the Sha Tin run, however, when he viewed the video of the race, he was of the view that RED COMMANDER may have been asked to do too much through the race. He said for tonight's run he had not been approached by any Jockey for the ride and he made contact himself with S Dye. He said before the race he instructed Jockey Dye to ensure that RED COMMANDER was allowed time to settle in the early stages. He also said the horse can take hard riding and to make sure that it was under considerable pressure over the concluding stages. Mr Wong was also of the view that the going tonight would suit the horse and he said the manner in which the first sections of the race were run was also of assistance to RED COMMANDER. He said before the race he did mention to the connections that the prevailing weather conditions would suit RED COMMANDER and because of this the horse may be some chance. Mr Wong did conclude by saying RED COMMANDER in his opinion did not finish the race off as strong as it looked. It was in his opinion more that other runners were not going to the line. The explanations submitted by Mr Wong were recorded. He was told it was difficult to explain for the horse over similar distance can finish so far back one start and be successful next start and he must do all he can to avoid this type of inconsistency. FLORAL CHEERS was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
