Mitsumasa Nakauchida

Background:
Mitsumasa Nakauchida has spent his entire life around horses after being born on a pre-training farm in Western Japan and, at the age of 16, he left Japan and went to Ireland, the United Kingdom, France and the United States of America to learn about training horses, before returning to his homeland and commencing work as a groom for the Mitsuru Hashida stable in 2007. He obtained his JRA trainer’s licence in 2012 and has won the JRA Award four times, for the highest winning percentage, in 2017, 2019, 2021 and 2022. He won three Group 1 races in 2023 with Liberty Island, the seventh winner of Japan’s Triple Tiara. In 2024, he won the G2 Kinko Sho with Prognosis, who also placed second in the QEII Cup at Sha Tin and second in Australia’s W.S. Cox Plate last October behind Viva Sistina. This year, he has won Group 2 races with Queen’s Walk and Lord del Rey.
