| Background: Andre Fabre is one of the greatest trainers in racing history. The law graduate son of a diplomat, this unusual racing character, one of whose greatest pleasures in life are the works of Marcel Proust, became one of France’s leading jump jockeys, riding more than 250 winners including France’s premier steeplechase, the Grand Steeple-Chase de Paris. As a trainer he has been champion trainer in France no fewer than 30 times, including 21 in succession. He has trained the winners of all of his country’s greatest races, including the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe a remarkable eight times. His champions include Trempolino, Zafonic, Peintre Celebre, Hurricane Run and Manduro. In 2011, Fabre completed a lifelong ambition when Pour Moi won the Derby Stakes at Epsom.
