Racing Incident Report
Pla. | Horse No. | Horse | Incident |
| 8 | JOYFUL PROSPERITY (H213) | Jumped only fairly. Sent for sampling post-race. |
| 9 | JUBILATION (G029) | Sent for sampling post-race. |
| 1 | CHARITY GAIN (H431) | No report. |
| 6 | AFFORDABLE (J242) | From the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. |
| 12 | MANAGEMENT FOLKS (E496) | Slow to begin. Near the 200 Metres was eased and shifted to the outside of AFFORDABLE to continue into clear running. |
| 14 | ARTHUR'S KINGDOM (E194) | No report. |
| 3 | BILLIONAIRE SECRET (G303) | Shortly after the start was steadied and got its head up when being bumped by PRINCIPLED which shifted in and away from HAPPY HERO. BILLIONAIRE SECRET was then shifted across behind runners in the early stages from a wide barrier. |
| 7 | HAPPY HERO (G322) | When questioned, L Hewitson stated that the preference was to ride HAPPY HERO conservatively from its wide barrier, but if the pace of the race was not quick he had an option to hold a more forward position. He said after his mount commenced well, HAPPY HERO was able to obtain a handy position, however, was obliged to race wide and without cover. He further stated that he was reluctant to allow HAPPY HERO to stride forward in the middle stages as he was of the opinion that this would result in the pace of the event increasing as he felt the leaders would resist his attempts to cross to the front. Trainer M Newnham confirmed the instructions issued. |
| 13 | STORM WINNER (J069) | Near the 200 Metres had difficulty obtaining clear running between CONFRINGO and HAPPY HERO. After obtaining clear running shortly after lay in and away from HAPPY HERO over the concluding stages and proved difficult to ride out to the finish of the event. |
| 10 | CONFRINGO (J322) | No report. |
| 5 | PERFECT PAIRING (J331) | When questioned regarding his riding in the Home Straight and the reason he shifted out to obtain clear running rather than following JOYFUL PROSPERITY into the event, H Bowman stated that on straightening he was of the opinion that JOYFUL PROSPERITY would have difficulty obtaining clear running when it was positioned behind JUBILATION. He said as a result he then elected to shift to the outside of JOYFUL PROSPERITY in an attempt to obtain clear running, however, became held up behind SILVER KING and LITTLE FAIRY for some distance near the 400 Metres. He further added that from the 350 Metres he was unable to fully test his mount when positioned behind CONFRINGO and did not obtain clear running until approaching the 150 Metres where he shifted his mount to the outside of STORM WINNER to obtain clear running. After considering his explanation, the Stewards found the tactics adopted by Jockey Bowman were reasonable in the circumstances. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. |
| 11 | LITTLE FAIRY (H206) | Held up making the Home Turn and near the 400 Metres improved into a tight run between JOYFUL PROSPERITY and SILVER KING which was commencing to give ground. As a result, LITTLE FAIRY became unbalanced when racing tight between those two runners. |
| 4 | PRINCIPLED (J206) | Shifted in shortly after the start and was bumped. |
| 2 | SILVER KING (H420) | A veterinary inspection immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer” which had previously been reported. |
