Racing Incident Report
RING BELLS jumped only fairly.
GOLDEN FAIRY jumped awkwardly, made contact with the left side of its barrier and then from a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners. GOLDEN FAIRY then raced keenly in the early stages.
From wide barriers, SUPERB DADDY and SMILING FACE were also shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Approaching the 1400 Metres, CABLE SPEED, which was inclined to race keenly, was steadied to avoid DAILY BEAUTY (H Bowman) which shifted in when not quite clear. H Bowman was reprimanded. In this incident, CABLE SPEED shifted in and made contact with SPLENDID STAR.
On straightening, LEISURE AND GOLD, which was inclined to lay in, shifted in, resulting in FOXHUNTER WAY being disappointed for running to the inside of LEISURE AND GOLD and then held up for a short distance thereafter.
Approaching the 300 Metres, GALLANT HERO was steadied when disappointed for running between RING BELLS and FORTUNE WINNER which shifted in slightly. GALLANT HERO was then shifted to the inside of RING BELLS to secure clear running shortly after. FORTUNE WINNER then continued to lay in under pressure in the Straight.
For a short distance near the 250 Metres, OWNERS’ STAR had some difficulty obtaining clear running when being directed to the outside of FORTUNE WINNER.
Over the concluding stages, DAILY BEAUTY could not be ridden out to the finish when racing tight to the inside of FOXHUNTER WAY.
When questioned regarding his riding, K Teetan (CABLE SPEED) reported that his instructions were to endeavour to take up a forward position and potentially lead, however, not to pressure his mount in the early stages to hold that position. He added that CABLE SPEED jumped awkwardly and as a result he was obliged to make some use of his mount in the early stages in an endeavour to hold a forward position. He said when positioned to the inside of FOXHUNTER WAY and when that runner was showing intent to go forward and cross in the early stages, he was reluctant to make use of his mount to hold that position and therefore allowed FOXHUNTER WAY to cross where he held a handy position one-off. He said due to the manner in which his mount jumped in tonight’s event, this resulted in CABLE SPEED settling further back than what he had anticipated. He further stated that near the 800 Metres he commenced a forward move on CABLE SPEED as his mount is one-paced and although the pace of the event was relatively strong in the early stages, he felt that this would provide CABLE SPEED with the best opportunity to finish in the best possible position in the race. Trainer C W Chang confirmed the instructions issued.
After the race, Apprentice Y L Chung (LEISURE AND GOLD) reported that from a wide barrier his instructions were to endeavour to lead tonight. He said LEISURE AND GOLD travelled keenly in the lead and gave ground in the Straight.
A veterinary inspection of SUPERB DADDY immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer” which had previously been reported.
A veterinary inspection of SPLENDID STAR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
GALLANT HERO and OWNERS’ STAR were sent for sampling.
