Racing Incident Report
ARROGANT and DRAGON GENERAL were crowded for room on jumping between BALLISTIC KING which shifted out marginally and KINGS SHIELD which shifted in. Then, from wide barriers, ARROGANT and DRAGON GENERAL were shifted across behind runners in the early stages. After this, KINGS SHIELD was ridden along, however, when racing wide and without cover after the 1300 Metres was steadied to obtain cover behind BALLISTIC KING.
KINGS SHIELD lost its right hind plate near the 1250 Metres.
After the 800 Metres, BALLISTIC KING was left racing wide and without cover.
Passing the 700 Metres, ARROGANT was checked when momentarily crowded for room inside BEAUTY LEGACY which commenced to travel keenly and shifted in marginally when awkwardly placed close to the heels of DECRYPT.
Near the 550 Metres, BALLISTIC KING raced tight outside TIME TO CELEBRATE which shifted to the outside of CALIFORNIA WHIP.
BEAUTY LEGACY was held up for clear running passing the 400 Metres and approaching the 300 Metres was shifted in abruptly away from the heels of TRANSCENDENT which was giving ground. BEAUTY LEGACY then continued to be held up for clear running until near the 200 Metres at which stage the horse improved into tight running inside GOOD STANDING.
Near the 350 Metres, DECRYPT was crowded for room between AMAZING ONE PLUS and CALIFORNIA WHIP (N Callan) which shifted in. In this incident, AMAZING ONE PLUS became unbalanced when bumped on the hindquarters by DECRYPT. N Callan was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. After this, DECRYPT raced tight outside AMAZING ONE PLUS which shifted out.
When questioned, M Chadwick stated that he was asked to ride TRANSCENDENT positively in the early stages from the outside barrier as the horse was stepping up to 1400 Metres today. He said it was felt that BUDDIES and MORETHANLUCKY would be ridden to obtain a forward position and that TRANSCENDENT would have sufficient speed to be able to obtain a trailing position behind those horses. He said KINGS SHIELD, which was drawn inside TRANSCENDENT, showed more early speed than his mount in the early stages and when it appeared as though that horse was going to be ridden in a forward position, he initially attempted to shift TRANSCENDENT behind that horse and obtain cover. He said however that KINGS SHIELD was steadied after the 1300 Metres to obtain cover and as TRANSCENDENT was racing very wide he elected to allow his mount to then improve its position rather than continuing to steady his mount. He said near the 1000 Metres he felt that there was an opportunity to clear CALIFORNIA WHIP to race outside BUDDIES which at this time was racing on the rail behind the leader MORETHANLUCKY, however, as he shifted in to obtain this position, BUDDIES was shifted out from behind MORETHANLUCKY which resulted in TRANSCENDENT racing in a three wide position without cover. He added he therefore allowed TRANSCENDENT to improve forward of BUDDIES after the 800 Metres and was able to shift across to race outside MORETHANLUCKY near the 700 Metres. He said whilst TRANSCENDENT did not finish off the race, he believed that the circumstances of the race in the early and middle stages were the reason for it failing to finish off the race.
A veterinary inspection of GOOD STANDING immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucus in the horse’s trachea.
A veterinary inspection of ARROGANT and TRANSCENDENT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
BEAUTY LEGACY, BUDDIES and AMAZING ONE PLUS were sent for sampling.
