Racing Incident Report
After being placed in the barriers, EXTRA FORTUNE became fractious, reared and momentarily got its left front leg into the adjoining stall. Also after being loaded into the barriers, WE THE SOUTH reared abruptly and sat down, resulting in its rider, N Callan, being dislodged. WE THE SOUTH was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, WE THE SOUTH was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. EXTRA FORTUNE, which occupied the barrier stall inside WE THE SOUTH, was removed from the barriers, examined by the Veterinary Officer and passed fit to race. Before being allowed to race again, EXTRA FORTUNE will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. Before being allowed to race again, WE THE SOUTH will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of SUNSHINE UNIVERSE, which was drawn directly outside WE THE SOUTH, immediately following the race found that horse to have sustained a laceration to the left front fetlock. Before being allowed to race again, SUNSHINE UNIVERSE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. N Callan was subsequently examined by the Chief Medical Officer and passed fit to fulfil his immediate race riding engagement.
After being placed in the barriers, HERE COMES TED reared, resulting in G van Niekerk being dislodged without incident. After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon reported that HERE COMES TED had sustained wounds to its left upper eyelid.
Just prior to the start being effected, DUBLIN STAR became very fractious and after the blindfold was removed from DUBLIN STAR, it lunged at the front gates, resulting in the front gates opening marginally prior to the remaining gates. As the Stewards were satisfied that DUBLIN STAR did not gain an advantage from the stalls opening just prior to the remaining gates, no further action was taken. As a result of DUBLIN STAR lunging at the front gates, the horse lost ground on jumping. Before being allowed to race again, DUBLIN STAR will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test.
DREAM TEAM began awkwardly.
MY FAMILY shifted out at the start and bumped ZERO HEDGE.
COOLCELEB shifted in at the start, resulting in FORTUNE HERO being taken in onto FABULOUS EIGHT and causing FORTUNE HERO and FABULOUS EIGHT to be badly crowded for room outside GOOD VIEW CLARICO which became badly unbalanced when bumped on the hindquarters by FABULOUS EIGHT.
Passing the 700 Metres, COMFORT LIFE was steadied away from the heels of COOLCELEB which shifted out after being brushed by FORTUNE HERO which shifted out after being bumped by FABULOUS EIGHT.
After the 600 Metres, DREAM TEAM (C Schofield) raced greenly and shifted ground on a number of occasions and passing the 500 Metres shifted in. ZERO HEDGE, which had been following DREAM TEAM, attempted to improve into tight running outside that horse after the 500 Metres and was then steadied passing the 400 Metres when DREAM TEAM shifted out. C Schofield was reprimanded and told that he must be aware of his mounts shifting ground so as to avoid causing interference to other runners.
DUBLIN STAR was held up for clear running from near the 450 Metres until passing the 100 Metres.
Passing the 100 Metres, FABULOUS EIGHT was bumped by COOLCELEB which was shifted in away from the heels of HERE COMES TED which shifted in.
Over the concluding stages, ZERO HEDGE was awkwardly placed close to the heels of DREAM TEAM and consequently was not able to be ridden out all the way to the end of the race.
A veterinary inspection of FABULOUS EIGHT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
ZERO HEDGE, GOOD VIEW CLARICO and HERE COMES TED were sent for sampling.
<16/3/2020 Additional Veterinary Report>After the race, it was reported that SUNSHINE UNIVERSE was found to have sustained a laceration to the left front fetlock. SUNSHINE UNIVERSE was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer R Gibson yesterday morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in its left front leg with a laceration to the left front fetlock. As previously advised, SUNSHINE UNIVERSE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again.
