Racing Incident Report
CHAPARRAL STAR began awkwardly.
From a wide barrier, LITTLE ISLAND was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
KWAICHUNG BROTHERS, WONDERFUL TIGER and GODSPEED were steadied in the early stages to obtain cover.
After being steadied approaching the winning post on the first occasion, KEEP GOING was left racing wide and without cover after the 1100 Metres until the 600 Metres at which time the horse was allowed to improve its position to race outside the lead.
Passing the winning post on the first occasion, WONDERFUL TIGER commenced to travel keenly when being steadied to obtain cover behind DOCTORS DELIGHT.
For some distance after the 600 Metres, HAPPY HOUR was taken back through the field when awkwardly placed behind DIVINE POWER which came under pressure.
Near the 500 Metres, KWAICHUNG BROTHERS was awkwardly placed behind HAPPY HOUR.
Approaching the 200 Metres, HAPPY HOUR was shifted in away from the heels of KEEP GOING which was commencing to give ground.
Over the last 100 Metres, HAPPY HOUR was unable to obtain clear running and consequently was not able to be tested.
Over the last 50 Metres, CHAPARRAL STAR was held up for clear running and because of this was not able to be ridden out to the end of the race.
After the race, J McDonald was not able to offer any explanation for the disappointing performance of GODSPEED. A veterinary inspection of GODSPEED immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Following the race, K Teetan (WONDERFUL TIGER) reported that his saddle shifted forward passing the 1200 Metres, placing him at a disadvantage for the remainder of the race. He said because WONDERFUL TIGER was travelling keenly and due to his saddle shifting, he had no alternative other than to shift out away from the heels of DOCTORS DELIGHT near the 900 Metres to follow KEEP GOING. He said when that horse improved to race outside the lead, WONDERFUL TIGER was then left racing without cover near the 600 Metres.
After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that DOCTORS DELIGHT had sustained a small wound to the outside of the left hind pastern.
After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on GOLD VELVET at the request of Trainer A T Millard. The Veterinary Surgeon said this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, GOLD VELVET will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
LIVERBIRD STAR, DOCTORS DELIGHT and GOLD VELVET were sent for sampling.
