Racing Incident Report
YOUNG GLORY was crowded for room on jumping between CELEBRATION and CHATER THUNDER, both of which shifted ground. After this, CELEBRATION, YOUNG GLORY and CHATER THUNDER were all shifted across behind runners.
GORGEOUS AGAIN shifted out at the start and bumped BEST EFFORT.
Shortly after the start, PROUD SKY was awkwardly placed inside the heels of ABOVE.
Near the 800 Metres, ABOVE was taken into a three wide position without cover when BEST EFFORT shifted out from behind DRAGON WARRIOR.
CELEBRATION lay in under pressure in the Straight, resulting in its rider having to stop riding and correct the horse on a number of occasions.
The performance of ROCKET GO, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, ROCKET GO will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
When questioned regarding the performance of DRAGON WARRIOR, Z Purton stated that he allowed his mount to improve in the early stages to obtain a forward position as instructed. He said after shifting in to race outside the leader BEST EFFORT near the 1700 Metres, DRAGON WARRIOR then commenced to travel keenly and he believed he would have had to fight against the horse to remain racing outside BEST EFFORT. He said he therefore elected to allow DRAGON WARRIOR to improve into the lead in the hope that the horse would settle better. He said after crossing BEST EFFORT approaching the 1200 Metres, DRAGON WARRIOR then settled better and he was able to steady the tempo as the race had been run quickly in the early stages. He added DRAGON WARRIOR came under pressure rounding the Home Turn and then in the Straight gave ground. He said he attributed today’s performance of the horse working too hard in the early stages which resulted in the tempo of the race being run too quickly. A veterinary inspection of DRAGON WARRIOR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious.
After the race, K Teetan was not able to offer any explanation for the disappointing performance of YOUNG GLORY. He said YOUNG GLORY did not quicken at any stage of the race which it was entitled to do given the race had been run at a good tempo. A veterinary inspection of YOUNG GLORY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
GORGEOUS AGAIN and BEST EFFORT were sent for sampling.
<3/6/2019 Additional Veterinary Report>The Veterinary Officer reported that GORGEOUS AGAIN was lame in its right front leg after racing. Before being allowed to race again, GORGEOUS AGAIN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
