Racing Incident Report
NAVAS began awkwardly and then from a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
HAPPY WIN WIN was crowded for room on jumping between ASSIMILATE and MONGOLIAN LEGEND which shifted out.
When being steadied from a wide barrier to obtain cover, BEAUTY ENERGY commenced to travel keenly near the 1250 Metres when racing tight outside ASSIMILATE which was taken out by HAPPY WIN WIN. After this, BEAUTY ENERGY continued to travel keenly and proved difficult to shift across to race behind ASSIMILATE until after the 1000 Metres.
Approaching the 1100 Metres, HAPPY WIN WIN got its head up on a number of occasions when being steadied to be shifted in behind MONGOLIAN LEGEND.
Passing the 200 Metres, EVERYONE’S JOY shifted in and was awkwardly placed outside the heels of SUPER WISE. After this, SUPER WISE shifted out under pressure and inconvenienced EVERYONE’S JOY.
Near the 150 Metres, BEAUTY ENERGY raced tight outside MONGOLIAN LEGEND.
Approaching the 100 Metres, Apprentice K H Chan’s (SUPER WISE) right hand momentarily slipped away from the rein as SUPER WISE shifted out under pressure.
Close to the finishing line, KIRAM was awkwardly placed inside the heels of EVERYONE’S JOY.
When questioned regarding the performance of FOLLOW ME, J Moreira stated that whilst he had not ridden FOLLOW ME in the lead up to today’s race, the horse’s barrier trials in the lead up to today’s race had appeared to be impressive. He said FOLLOW ME was able to obtain a good trailing position behind EVERYONE’S JOY after the 1000 Metres and FOLLOW ME travelled comfortably behind that horse in the middle stages. He said rounding the Home Turn he shifted FOLLOW ME to the outside of EVERYONE’S JOY and FOLLOW ME initially quickened with that horse. He said however that its turn of foot was short-lived and the horse came under heavy pressure near the 350 Metres. He said FOLLOW ME initially stayed on one-paced, however, over the final 150 Metres was disappointing in the manner in which it gave ground. He added he was not able to offer any explanation for the horse’s disappointing performance as FOLLOW ME appeared to pull up well after the race. The performance of FOLLOW ME, favourite for today’s race and which finished towards the rear of the field, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, FOLLOW ME will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of FOLLOW ME immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
FOLLOW ME, SUPER WISE and EVERYONE’S JOY were sent for sampling.
<20/5/2019 Additional Veterinary Report>The Veterinary Surgeon reported that SUPER WISE was lame in its left front leg with a sore fetlock on the morning after racing. Before being allowed to race again, SUPER WISE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
