Racing Incident Report

FAMOUS WARRIOR and HOME RUN were crowded for room on jumping between SKY MELODY which shifted out and WINSTON’S LAD which got its head on the side and shifted in. After this, FAMOUS WARRIOR was ridden along, however, failed to muster speed.
From a wide barrier, DUKEDOM was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Approaching the 1300 Metres., GREEN CARD was momentarily eased away from the heels of SUN TOUCH which shifted in.
After the 1000 Metres, GREEN CARD was left racing wide and without cover.
Passing the 400 Metres, HOME RUN was shifted to the outside of SKY MELODY to obtain clear running.
Passing the 350 Metres, DUKEDOM was shifted out away from the heels of FAMOUS WARRIOR (J Moreira) which shifted out when not properly clear. J Moreira was severely reprimanded and advised to ensure that he provides sufficient clearance when shifting ground in similar circumstances.
Approaching the 300 Metres, WINWIN RUBY was awkwardly placed close to the heels of MISTER MONTE when being shifted to the outside of that horse.
Also approaching the 300 Metres, WINSTON’S LAD raced in restricted room inside I’M THE CONQUIST when improving into tight running outside that horse.
When questioned, Apprentice C Wong stated that he was asked to ride SUN TOUCH positively in the early stages to ensure that it led. He said in accordance with his instructions, from the outside barrier, he rode his mount hard in the early stages and he was able to shift across and clear the field to lead the race on the rail approaching the 1100 Metres. He said after this SUN TOUCH travelled strongly and he attempted to steady the tempo of the race as he was aware that SUN TOUCH was running quicker than had been hoped. He said whilst he attempted to steady the tempo on SUN TOUCH, he was reluctant to restrain that horse too heavily as he was concerned that the horse may get its head up and over-race if he made a more concerted effort to reduce the tempo. Apprentice Wong was advised that his explanation would be reported, however, he must ensure that he rates his mounts such that they are able to run sectionals which provide them with the best opportunity to finish off the race.
When questioned, J Moreira stated that after the 200 Metres FAMOUS WARRIOR commenced to lay in under pressure and near the 100 Metres shifted in towards the heels of HARMONY HERO which required him to stop riding and shift his mount out away from the heels of HARMONY HERO. He said after correcting FAMOUS WARRIOR he was able to continue riding the horse along vigorously, however, FAMOUS WARRIOR again shifted in towards the heels of HARMONY HERO passing the 50 Metres which required him to shift FAMOUS WARRIOR out abruptly away from HARMONY HERO to avoid striking that horse’s heels. He said when he did this he had to transfer his body weight to the left as he had to direct FAMOUS WARRIOR out abruptly away from HARMONY HERO and this resulted in his right foot slipping from his stirrup iron which meant that he was not able to ride FAMOUS WARRIOR out over the concluding stages. After viewing the videos, the Stewards accepted the evidence of J Moreira and no further action was taken.
HARMONY HERO and SUN TOUCH were sent for sampling.
