Racing Incident Report
GREAT SKY and PABLOSKY made heavy contact at the start. A short distance later, GREAT SKY lost ground when crowded for room between PABLOSKY which shifted in after becoming unbalanced and CLEVER BEAVER which, after initially shifting out of its own accord, was taken out further by ORIENTAL PROSPER.
Approaching the 1100 Metres, GETAWAY GUY was momentarily crowded for room between PABLOSKY and MR GENUINE which shifted in.
Along the Back Straight, ELITE SPIRIT raced with its head on the side and making the first turn approaching the 700 Metres shifted out across the heels of PABLOSKY, resulting in DANEWIN TIGER and ORIENTAL PROSPER both being severely hampered and taken wider. CHEETAH BOY was also badly hampered and had to be shifted out away from the heels of ORIENTAL PROSPER and taken extremely wide. CLEVER BEAVER was hampered and MR GENUINE was badly hampered in consequence. After this, ELITE SPIRIT continued to race with its head on the side and hung out. The racing manners of ELITE SPIRIT were considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, ELITE SPIRIT will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial around a bend.
DANEWIN TIGER lost its right front plate after passing the winning post.
When questioned regarding his riding of PABLOSKY rounding the Home Turn and in the early part of the Straight, T Berry stated that he considered shifting away from the rail after the 600 Metres with a view to improving around SIGHT BELIEVER and DOMINEER in advance of PABLOSKY. He said however that at this time PABLOSKY was not travelling well and was under heavy pressure, therefore he maintained his position on the rail. He said it was not until GREAT SKY improved to his outside that PABLOSKY commenced to travel into the race, however, by this time he was not in a position to shift out due to GREAT SKY having improved its position around PABLOSKY. He added near the 250 Metres a tight run momentarily appeared between SIGHT BELIEVER and DOMINEER, however, he did not believe PABLOSKY would have been able to improve its position quickly enough to take the run which eventually closed passing the 200 Metres. He said for this reason PABLOSKY then had some difficulty obtaining clear running until after the 150 Metres at which time the horse was able to be shifted to the outside of runners.
A veterinary inspection of CHEETAH BOY and ORIENTAL PROSPER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of GETAWAY GUY immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, GETAWAY GUY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
DOMINEER, GREAT SKY and SIGHT BELIEVER were sent for sampling.
