Racing Incident Report
From the outside barrier, BEAUTY AHEAD was taken across behind runners shortly after the start.
GETAWAY GUY began awkwardly and lost ground.
STRONG FOUNDATION and SKY FAR bumped as the start was effected.
Shortly after the start, BRILLIANT SHINE shifted in and bumped SPEEDYGONZALEZ.
After initially being ridden along in the early stages, VICTORIUS was left racing wide and near the 1100 Metres was then steadied and taken across behind runners to obtain a position with cover.
SUNNY FAY, which was proving difficult to settle making the first turn, was left racing wide and without cover near the 800 Metres.
Making the turn after the 600 Metres, STRONG FOUNDATION commenced to travel keenly and shifted out away from the heels of BRILLIANT SHINE and in doing so bumped WEALTHY FORTUNE which became unbalanced.
VICTORIUS lost its right front plate at about the 500 Metres.
When questioned, M L Yeung stated that he had been instructed to ride SKY FAR in a forward position due to the pattern of tonight’s racing which seemingly favoured horses that were being ridden on the speed and also having consideration to the horse’s light weight. He said after beginning fairly he allowed SKY FAR to improve its position and after the 1100 Metres looked to his inside to see if it was possible to obtain a position with cover behind POLYMER WIN. He said due to the make-up of the field, approaching the turn near the 1000 Metres he was left racing three wide and for this reason he allowed his mount to stride forward and race outside the leader NORDIC ONE near the 800 Metres. He said however that SKY FAR did not finish off its race and after the race he advised the connections that SKY FAR would be better suited by being ridden more conservatively. Trainer A Lee stated that he did not want SKY FAR getting too far out of its ground as horses tonight had been disadvantaged making up ground from back in the field. He said he was hopeful that with the horse’s light weight it would be able to take up a forward position, however, he did not anticipate that SKY FAR would be ridden towards the lead. He said he had hoped, from barrier 8, that the horse may be able to obtain a position with cover behind the leaders. Mr Lee confirmed that, wherever possible, in the near future he would prefer for the horse to be ridden from off the speed. A veterinary inspection of SKY FAR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
SPEEDYGONZALEZ and STRONG FOUNDATION were sent for sampling.
