Racing Incident Report

DISCIPLES TWELVE was withdrawn on 16.9.13 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter NORDIC ONE (A Suborics). Before being allowed to race again, DISCIPLES TWELVE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
FAT CHOY HONG KONG had its tongue tie refitted behind the barriers.
As the start was effected, HIGHEST ACCLAIM, which was leaning on the inside of its stall, began awkwardly and shortly after the start was steadied away from the heels of GENUINE LEADER which was taken out by PROLIFIC CHAMPION.
FIGHTER CLASS began awkwardly.
From the outside barrier, TURF MAGIC was taken across behind runners shortly after the start.
Making the first turn near the 1000 Metres, ALL FRIENDS got its head on the side and shifted in away from FAT CHOY HONG KONG, resulting in GENUINE LEADER racing in restricted room between ALL FRIENDS and PROLIFIC CHAMPION.
For some distance approaching and passing the 900 Metres, KICK SERVE proved difficult to settle.
Passing the 900 Metres, NORDIC ONE was steadied away from the heels of KICK SERVE.
For some distance after the 900 Metres, HIGHEST ACCLAIM got its head up when proving very difficult to settle and having to be checked away from the heels of PROLIFIC CHAMPION.
Passing the 600 Metres, KICK SERVE was steadied when crowded for room between HIGHEST ACCLAIM which shifted out slightly and FAT CHOY HONG KONG (T Angland) which got its head on the side and shifted in. T Angland was advised that whilst there was some circumstances to this incident, nonetheless he would be expected in similar circumstances to react to his mounts shifting ground sooner than he did on this occasion.
When questioned, A Suborics (NORDIC ONE) stated that in pre-race discussions with Trainer D Cruz, it was felt that there was good speed drawn in barriers 1 through 4 and that all of these horses would be expected to take up forward positions in the race. He said it was also felt that, from barrier 10, if NORDIC ONE were to be ridden along in a forward position and those horses also obtained forward positions as anticipated, NORDIC ONE would be left racing wide and possibly without cover. He said it was therefore decided in NORDIC ONE’s best interests to shift across behind the main body of the field in the early stages and obtain a position with cover. He added NORDIC ONE began very well, but given the pre-race discussions, he immediately steadied his mount in the early stages so as to shift across to obtain a position closer to the rail. He said after NORDIC ONE initially proved somewhat difficult to settle, he was able to shift across to race behind KICK SERVE near the 900 Metres. Trainer D Cruz confirmed the instructions given to A Suborics. He said when NORDIC ONE was successful over the course and distance last season, the horse had carried a light weight. He said he anticipated that tonight’s race would be run at a genuine tempo and he held concerns that NORDIC ONE would either be left racing wide or too much use would have to be made of the horse to cross runners to its inside. He said if either scenario happened, NORDIC ONE would not be able to close off the race. He added as he anticipated the race being run at a good tempo, he was of the opinion that NORDIC ONE would be able to obtain a position with cover, would be able to settle and therefore would be able to finish off the race. He said however that the race in the early stages was not run at the genuine tempo that he anticipated and because of this NORDIC ONE was not able to settle than it had been hoped.
After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on GENUINE LEADER at the request of Trainer A T Millard. The Veterinary Surgeon reported that this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, GENUINE LEADER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
Also after the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on FIGHTER CLASS at the request of Trainer J Size. The Veterinary Surgeon reported that this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, FIGHTER CLASS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
HIGHEST ACCLAIM and PROLIFIC CHAMPION were sent for sampling.
