Racing Incident Report

SPOKE TO CARLO began awkwardly and then shortly after the start was crowded for room between ALL FRIENDS and WINNING BOY, both of which shifted ground.
NEW GREENFIELD was crowded for room at the start between MEDALLIST and EAGLE POWER which shifted in. After this, NEW GREENFIELD was taken across behind runners.
Despite being vigorously ridden along in the early stages, HORSE APLENTY failed to muster speed.
Passing the 1400 Metres, HORSE APLENTY was awkwardly placed inside the heels of CULTURAL CITY.
Near the 1200 Metres, SPOKE TO CARLO raced tight inside WINNING BOY which was being steadied by its rider.
After the 800 Metres, MEGA CHAMPION got its head on the side and lay in.
Rounding the Home Turn, CULTURAL CITY and MEGA CHAMPION raced tight as CULTURAL CITY shifted out away from the rail.
Over the concluding stages, I SMELL MONEY raced in restricted room between ALL FRIENDS and CULTURAL CITY which in the Straight got its head on the side and lay out.
For the majority of the race, WINNING BOY travelled wide and without cover.
When questioned, G Mossé (LEO’S PRIDE) stated that he had ridden his mount from the 600 Metres as it had previously responded well to hard riding. He said in the early part of the Straight LEO’S PRIDE commenced to close off the race strongly and he was confident that the horse would be near the placegetters. He said however that near the 150 Metres LEO’S PRIDE’s action shortened noticeably and he became concerned for the horse’s welfare. He said he had ridden the horse in a piece of work in the lead up to today’s race when the All Weather Track was sealed and in that work LEO’S PRIDE did not travel as comfortably as it normally does. He added because of his concern regarding LEO’S PRIDE, he ceased riding it out vigorously but continued to use the whip down the right shoulder as a means of encouraging the horse to the finish. He said despite this LEO’S PRIDE gave ground alarmingly over the concluding stages. Trainer K W Lui stated that, in his opinion, LEO’S PRIDE, as an older horse, did not appreciate the track conditions today. He said immediately after the race he could not detect that there was anything amiss with LEO’S PRIDE and therefore it is his intention to monitor the horse’s progress in the days following today’s race before giving consideration to its immediate racing campaign. A veterinary inspection of LEO’S PRIDE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, LEO’S PRIDE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

CULTURAL CITY, EAGLE POWER and MEDALLIST were sent for sampling.
