Racing Incident Report
TREASURE MAN and BEAR SUPREME were slow to begin.
T-BOLT began awkwardly and shortly after the start was buffeted for room between JADE CHRISTY and SPEED THUNDER which shifted out.
HIGHLAND DRAGON began awkwardly.
Shortly after the start, GOLDEN LEGEND was awkwardly placed inside the heels of SMART VOLATILITY.
Also shortly after the start, HIGHLAND DRAGON and JOY TOGETHER were shifted across behind runners.
Over the final 400 Metres, SMART VOLATILITY raced greenly and shifted out on a number of occasions.
Passing the 400 Metres, DAPPER BOY was awkwardly placed close to the heels of SEA DRAGON.
Near the 350 Metres, OCEAN ROAR was steadied away from the heels of T-BOLT which for some distance had been inclined to get its head on the side and hang out.
For the majority of the race, GOLDEN LEGEND got its head on the side and lay out.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of REGENCY CHAMPION, F Coetzee stated that he placed the horse under pressure near the 800 Metres to hold its position as it was not showing early speed. He said had he not placed the horse under pressure at this stage, it gave him the impression that it would have given ground and would have lost touch with the leaders. He said he had to ride REGENCY CHAMPION along for a considerable distance after this in order to attempt to hold its position and because of this REGENCY CHAMPION was never able to travel on the bridle. He added that after the 400 Metres REGENCY CHAMPION got its head on the side and shifted out and, in his opinion, was very disappointing. Trainer A S Cruz advised that after today’s disappointing performance, he believed that REGENCY CHAMPION would be better suited by stepping up in distance as this may allow it to travel more comfortably than it did today. A veterinary inspection of REGENCY CHAMPION after the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of BEAR SUPREME after the race did not show any significant findings.
SEA DRAGON and DAPPER BOY were sent for sampling.
<21/1/2013 Additional Veterinary Report>The Clinical Veterinary Surgeon reported that BEAR SUPREME was lame in its right front leg on the morning after racing. Before being allowed to race again, BEAR SUPREME will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
