Racing Incident Report
CHINA DRAGON was withdrawn on 3.7.12 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter ABLE DRAGON (T Angland). Before being allowed to race again, CHINA DRAGON will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. As the start was effected, SOLAR WONDER reared and in doing so shifted in, making heavy contact with the hindquarters of NOBLE TWINS, causing that horse to become unbalanced and SOLAR WONDER to lose ground. Before being allowed to race again, SOLAR WONDER will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. PERFECT TEN was slow to begin and shortly after the start was steadied away from the heels of GOOD LOOKING WATCH. M Chadwick (MEDIC CHAMPION) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that approaching the winning post on the first occasion he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of DARK SECRET, resulting in that horse being taken in onto MASTER DREAMER, causing DARK SECRET and MASTER DREAMER to race unnecessarily tight and MASTER DREAMER to be ultimately taken across the rightful running of ABLE DRAGON which was checked. In considering all the circumstances including the number of remaining racemeetings of the current season, the Stewards decided to exercise their discretion provided to them by the Rules of Racing to defer Jockey Chadwick’s suspension from riding in races to commence on the first racemeeting of the 2012/2013 racing season and thereafter for a period incorporating the first three racemeetings of the season (3 Hong Kong racedays). In addition, M Chadwick was fined $40,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating 1 further raceday. After this incident, MEDIC CHAMPION was shifted out by its rider to relieve tightening to its inside and in doing so bumped TREASURE GLITTER (O Doleuze) which was shifting in. This resulted in MEDIC CHAMPION being taken in onto DARK SECRET which as a result was hampered. O Doleuze was reprimanded and advised that whilst there were some circumstances to this incident, nonetheless he must ensure that he leaves sufficient racing room for runners to his inside in similar circumstances. Passing the 1100 Metres, TELECOM CHARGER shifted out when being steadied away from the heels of GOOD LOOKING WATCH which itself was awkwardly placed close to the heels of PERFECT TEN. After the 900 Metres, NOBLE TWINS shifted out when awkwardly placed close to the heels of TELECOM CHARGER which itself was racing close to the heels of GOOD LOOKING WATCH. After this, NOBLE TWINS was left racing wide and without cover and consequently was allowed to stride into a more forward position, however, continued to race wide and without cover. Approaching the 800 Metres, SOLAR WONDER got its head up and proved difficult to settle when racing close to the heels of DIAMOND AGATE. At the entrance to the Straight, DARK SECRET was shifted to the inside of MISTER HORSE to obtain clear running. MASTER DREAMER, which was following, was shifted away from the heels of DARK SECRET in consequence. At the 200 Metres, DARK SECRET was struck across the nose by the whip of T Clark (MISTER HORSE). After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that ABLE DRAGON had lost its right front plate. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of DIAMOND AGATE, which was having its first start at Happy Valley tonight, A Suborics stated that it had been intended for the horse to be ridden in about a midfield position from barrier 2 if possible. He said however that DIAMOND AGATE was slow to begin and because of this the horse was obliged to race further back in the field than had been hoped. He said approaching the winning post on the first occasion his mount became unbalanced when having to be checked away from the heels of ABLE DRAGON when that horse suffered interference. He said, in his opinion, DIAMOND AGATE was too far back in tonight’s race given the slow tempo and the horse was not able to quicken when the field sprinted. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of MEDIC CHAMPION, M Chadwick stated that his mount travelled well when leading in what he felt were slow sectionals. He said MEDIC CHAMPION initially responded well to his riding rounding the Home Turn when MISTER HORSE improved its position, however, shortly after entering the Straight came under pressure. He said when MEDIC CHAMPION came under pressure, the horse lost its action and weakened out of the race over the final 200 Metres. A veterinary inspection of DIAMOND AGATE, GOOD LOOKING WATCH and MEDIC CHAMPION after the race did not show any significant findings. MEDIC CHAMPION, TREASURE GLITTER and DARK SECRET were sent for sampling.
<5/7/2012 Additional Veterinary Report>DIAMOND AGATE, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. DIAMOND AGATE was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer A Schutz this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in the left front leg and had a swollen right front fetlock. Before being allowed to race again, DIAMOND AGATE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
