Racing Incident Report

LEO’S PRIDE was slow to begin. Despite being ridden along in the early stages, CHATER D’CAT and HEALTHY BLUEBERRY both failed to muster speed. After the 1400 Metres, HAPPY CHA CHA proved difficult to settle and was awkwardly placed behind other runners. Throughout the race, PRIDE AND HONOUR travelled wide and without cover. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of JOLLY GOOD, D Whyte stated that he was unable to explain the poor performance of the horse. He said his mount travelled well behind the eventual winner, PRIDE AND HONOUR, however, came under pressure prior to the 600 Metres to maintain its position. He added at the 500 Metres he was not able to prevent COMMON GOAL from shifting out to his inside. He said he continued to place JOLLY GOOD under pressure, however, the horse did not close off the race as it did at its most recent start when successful. A veterinary inspection of JOLLY GOOD after the race did not show any significant findings. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of COMMON GOAL, B Prebble stated that his mount, after beginning awkwardly, travelled well throughout the race and he was able to shift JOLLY GOOD out passing the 500 Metres to improve his position. He said in the early part of the Straight COMMON GOAL commenced to finish off the race well, however, when placed under pressure after this finished off the race only fairly. He stated that although COMMON GOAL had been placed over the course and distance previously, in his opinion, the horse may not have run out a strong 1650 Metres when up in grade. A veterinary inspection of COMMON GOAL including an endoscopic examination after the race showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, COMMON GOAL will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. COMMON GOAL, PRIDE AND HONOUR and HEALTHY BLUEBERRY were sent for sampling.
<18/6/2012 Additional Veterinary Report>COMMON GOAL, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said at that time an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse’s trachea. COMMON GOAL was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer K L Man this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in the right front leg. As previously advised, COMMON GOAL will be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again.
