Racing Incident Report
SPLENDID CHAMPION was withdrawn on 11.10.11 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter EAST OCEAN (Apprentice M L Yeung). Before being allowed to race again, SPLENDID CHAMPION will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. FORTUNE COOKIE began awkwardly and then shortly after the start was crowded for room between REAL GENERAL which shifted out and VIVA GUY which was taken in by BRILLIANT CHARIOT. PRIVATE ROAD and EAST OCEAN bumped at the start. After the 1200 Metres, M’S MAGIC got its head up and lost ground when being steadied away from the heels of CLASSIC ENERGY. For some distance after the 1100 Metres, REAL GENERAL was awkwardly placed close to the heels of PRIVATE ROAD. At the 200 Metres, B Doyle (FORTUNE COOKIE) dropped his whip. Over the final 100 Metres, VIVA GUY raced in restricted room between HAPPY SEVEN and PRIVATE ROAD. Throughout the race, EAST OCEAN travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, Y T Cheng stated that he had been instructed to ride MUSTANG positively in the early stages to cross runners to his inside. He was told that if he were able to cross to the fence, he should steady MUSTANG and allow the anticipated leader, HAPPY SEVEN, to cross MUSTANG which would allow that horse to obtain the box seat. He said however that after riding MUSTANG along to cross to the fence, HAPPY SEVEN was content to sit to his outside and this resulted in MUSTANG being obliged to lead. A veterinary inspection of MUSTANG after the race did not show any significant findings. REAL GENERAL, PRIVATE ROAD and ROMANCING TAMAR were sent for sampling.
