Racing Incident Report
KENOBE began awkwardly and was slow to begin. From wide barriers, HAPPY CHA CHA and BLEDISLOE were taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Near the 900 Metres, SOLAR WONDER got its head up when being checked away from the heels of PROSPERITY. CHAMPION MOUNT and MONTE CRISTO, which were following, were hampered in consequence. At the 700 Metres, TREASURE GLITTER and JUN HUA bumped on a number of occasions as JUN HUA shifted out from behind GREAT LUCK. This resulted in TREASURE GLITTER racing wide and without cover for the remainder of the race. Near the 300 Metres, BLEDISLOE was steadied away from the heels of PROSPERITY which shifted in after being bumped by HAPPY CHA CHA. After this, BLEDISLOE had difficulty obtaining clear running until after the 100 Metres. CHAMPION MOUNT lay in in the Straight. Throughout the race, WADASURPRISE travelled and without cover. When questioned regarding his riding of BEST FRIEND in the Straight, D Beadman stated that he placed his mount under pressure shortly after entering the Straight and the horse commenced to lay in. He said after slapping the horse down the shoulder with the whip in the left hand, BEST FRIEND wanted to hang in and therefore he changed the whip from the left hand into the right hand. He added after this BEST FRIEND continued to hang in, he used the whip on the horse on a number of occasions, however, as the horse was not closing off the race, he desisted in riding it out over the concluding stages. D Beadman was advised to ensure that he fully tests his mounts wherever possible so as to leave no room for query. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of JUN HUA, C W Wong stated that the horse, which was attempting 1800 Metres for the first time today, travelled strongly throughout the race and because of the manner in which the horse was racing, he shifted out from behind GREAT LUCK near the 700 Metres to ensure that JUN HUA was able to obtain clear running. He said that he placed JUN HUA under pressure rounding the Home Turn, however, the horse failed to respond to his riding in the Straight as he expected and was quite disappointing. A veterinary inspection of JUN HUA and GREAT LUCK after the race did not show any significant findings. PROSPERITY, HAPPY CHA CHA and CHAMPION MOUNT were sent for sampling.
