Racing Incident Report
DYNAMIC CROSS was slow to begin. From wide barriers, MEDIC CHAMPION, PRINCE OF SUNSHINE and JIMSON THE BEST were all taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Near the 1300 Metres, DYNAMIC CROSS was steadied when racing in restricted room between LOMBARDI and DRAGON CHOICE which shifted in. For some distance near the 1000 Metres, DREAMS MAKER raced keenly. In the early stages, LOMBARDI proved very difficult to settle and then after the 800 Metres was left racing wide and without cover. In the middle stages, TARTUFO also proved difficult to settle. For some distance near the 700 Metres, OPEN SESAME was awkwardly placed close to the heels of JOHN DORY. Shortly after the 400 Metres, KING OF FISH II was momentarily steadied when disappointed for running between SUPER SURVEYS which was giving ground and SMART GIANT which shifted out. Near the 350 Metres, DYNAMIC CROSS was momentarily awkwardly placed close to the heels of LOMBARDI. When questioned, D Whyte stated that it had been intended for JOHN DORY to obtain a position behind SMART GIANT which it was anticipated would be ridden behind the expected leader of the race, DREAMS MAKER. He said after allowing SMART GIANT to cross JOHN DORY approaching the 1400 Metres, JOHN DORY was obliged to race further back in the field than had been intended when SMART GIANT was steadied to allow WASABISABI to cross which in turn was crossed by DREAMS MAKER and DRAGON CHOICE. SMART GIANT and DREAMS MAKER were sent for sampling.
