Racing Incident Report
NOT QUITE PERFECT began very awkwardly, got its head on the side and shifted out, resulting in HOT PEPPER being checked when crowded for room inside JOHN DORY. After this, NOT QUITE PERFECT was ridden along, however, failed to muster speed. MOCHI was slow to begin. Shortly after the start, SKY MASCOT shifted in and bumped KING OF FISH II. From a wide barrier, WELL DONE was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Passing the 1100 Metres, HOT PEPPER was steadied away from the heels of KING OF FISH II which shifted in. Making the first turn after the 900 Metres, MOCHI was checked after shifting out towards the heels of OASIS DAVIS. Near the 850 Metres, NOT QUITE PERFECT was steadied away from the heels of KING OF FISH II which was taken in by RED LOTUS which itself was awkwardly placed inside the heels of BINGO BINGO which at this time shifted in and away from MULTIPROUD. Near the 800 Metres, BINGO BINGO was steadied away from the heels of MULTIPROUD. At the entrance to the Straight, HOT PEPPER was steadied away from the heels of BINGO BINGO. In the early part of the Straight, KING OF FISH II was held up for clear running behind JOHN DORY. Over the final 50 Metres, HOT PEPPER raced in restricted room inside the heels of JOHN DORY and close to the finishing line was steadied away from the heels of that horse. Because of this, HOT PEPPER was not ridden out to the end of the race as it normally would be. G Mossé (SNITZEL KID) was reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts out all the way to the end of the race where circumstances permit. When questioned, M Chadwick (MULTIPROUD) stated that from the outside draw, he allowed his mount to obtain a forward position in the early stages. He said passing the 800 Metres he intended to cross JOHN DORY to sit outside the leader, SKY MASCOT, however, at this time he was not sufficiently clear of JOHN DORY. He said he continued to allow MULTIPROUD to improve its position with a view to crossing JOHN DORY, however, he received a number of calls from the rider of that horse and despite his efforts to clear JOHN DORY, it was apparent to him that that horse was maintaining a position to the inside of his heels. He said for this reason he was not able to cross that runner and consequently travelled three wide and without cover throughout the race. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that SKY MASCOT had sustained a wound to the outside of its right front heel. OASIS DAVIS and JOHN DORY were sent for sampling.
