Racing Incident Report

Shortly after the start, NEW LEADER and DIVINE KID raced in restricted room between SPLENDID CHAMPION and BEAUTIFUL CHOICE, both of which shifted ground. Near the 900 Metres, LUCKY PHOTO FRAME broke down and was retired from the event. SURROUNDED and HEY HA MASTER, which were following, were severely checked in consequence. Near the 700 Metres, NEW LEADER was momentarily crowded for room inside SURROUNDED. Rounding the Home Turn, SURROUNDED became unbalanced when taken out by SPLENDID CHAMPION which at this time shifted out to improve. Throughout the race, SUPER STRIKE travelled wide and without cover. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of SPLENDID CHAMPION, F Coetzee stated that after being caught wide and without cover in the early stages, he was able to position SPLENDID CHAMPION behind YOUNG HERO with cover near the 800 Metres. He said his mount travelled only fairly during the race and after being shifted out into clear running rounding the Home Turn, it was then disappointing in its failure to respond to his riding in the Straight. A veterinary inspection of SPLENDID CHAMPION after the race did not show any significant findings. Following the race, ZEZAO was scoped at the request of Trainer T W Leung and an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, ZEZAO will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. LIBERATOR and ZEZAO were sent for sampling.
