Racing Incident Report

CONGRATS began awkwardly. Near the 1000 Metres, VIVA FIGHTER got its head up when being checked away from the heels of FAT DRAGON. At the same point, BLUE SKY was awkwardly placed close to the heels of DORDENMA. When questioned, J Victoire (GRAND DANCER) stated that near the 1500 Metres he was intending to obtain a position one horse off the fence outside VIVA FIGHTER and he felt that BLUE SKY, which had initially raced to his inside, was being steadied to allow him to cross. He said, for this reason, he did not immediately cross to race alongside VIVA FIGHTER. He added he observed FAT DRAGON and DORDENMA being ridden forward to cross GRAND DANCER approaching the winning post the first time and as he was looking to his outside, he was unaware that he had inadvertently allowed room for SUPER SATIN and BLUE SKY to improve their positions to his inside. He said for this reason GRAND DANCER was left racing three wide and without cover throughout the race. He stated he was aware that he had erred in not immediately shifting to the outside of VIVA FIGHTER and establishing his position as by doing so he would have been able to obtain a position one horse off the fence with cover. The Stewards severely reprimanded J Victoire over his riding of GRAND DANCER in the early stages and advised him that in future he must ride his mounts positively and assert his position to ensure that horses ridden by him obtain favourable positions wherever possible and do not cover unnecessary ground. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of DORDENMA, Y T Cheng stated that from the outside barrier he was obliged to make some use of the horse in the early stages to shift in to a position outside the leader FAT DRAGON. He said tonight the race was run at a faster tempo than when the horse finished 2nd at its most recent start. He said due to the fast tempo of the race, DORDENMA was unable to finish off the race and weakened in the Home Straight. A veterinary inspection of DORDENMA and FAT DRAGON after the race did not show any significant findings. SUPER SATIN and INTERCHINA STAR were sent for sampling.
