Racing Incident Report

GLORIOUS GIANT, which was difficult to load, will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test before being allowed to race again. From the outside barrier, SPICY SHRIMP was steadied at the start and taken across behind runners. IMPLIED VOLATILITY and BINGO KEY were slow to begin. ORIENTAL COURSER began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped CHEVALIER KING. A short distance later, CHEVALIER KING was steadied when crowded for room between ORIENTAL COURSER and SUPER PEPPER which shifted out slightly. In the early stages, ACE OF SPADES proved difficult to settle and raced greenly. W C Marwing (SUPER PEPPER) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that passing the 1100 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of CHEVALIER KING, resulting in that horse being taken in across the rightful running of GLORIOUS GIANT which was checked. LEGEND EXPRESS, which was racing to the inside of GLORIOUS GIANT, was hampered as a consequence. W C Marwing was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday 5 November 2009 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). This suspension is with immediate effect. Near the 750 Metres, GLORIOUS GIANT was crowded for room inside ORIENTAL COURSER which itself was awkwardly placed inside FORTUNE KING. In this incident, GLORIOUS GIANT made contact with SPICY SHRIMP on its inside, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced. Near the 600 Metres, ORIENTAL COURSER was steadied when crowded for room between FORTUNE KING (Apprentice T H So) which shifted in and SPICY SHRIMP which shifted away from the fence to improve its position around LEGEND EXPRESS. Apprentice So was reprimanded and advised to ensure he leaves sufficient racing room to horses to his inside in similar circumstances. LEGEND EXPRESS was held up for a run in the early part of the Straight. Passing the 200 Metres, IMPLIED VOLATILITY raced in restricted room between BINGO KEY and MANY GAINS and then near the 50 Metres was steadied when crowded for room between BINGO KEY and MANY GAINS which was taken out by AMAZING FLYER. The performance of IMPLIED VOLATILITY, a last start winner, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, IMPLIED VOLATILITY will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When questioned, Apprentice M Chadwick stated that he was under no instructions on AMAZING FLYER other than to attempt to obtain cover from his wide barrier. He said in the early stages runners to his inside maintained their positions and for this reason he was obliged to race wide and without cover throughout the race. A veterinary inspection of MANY GAINS and IMPLIED VOLATILITY after the race did not show any significant findings. LEGEND EXPRESS, LEADING CITY and SUPER PEPPER were sent for sampling.
