Racing Incident Report
AIPODER IMAGE was slow to begin. On jumping, TRIUMPHANT GLORY and DRAGON BOY bumped, causing both horses to become unbalanced and lose ground. In the early stages, from a wide barrier, ACCELERATOR was taken back and then proved difficult to settle for a considerable distance. Near the 300 Metres, WINNING AHEAD, which for some distance had been experiencing difficulty obtaining clear running, was steadied and shifted out when disappointed for running between TOUCH MORE which was giving ground and DAYLIGHT EXPRESS. When questioned regarding the poor performance of DAYLIGHT EXPRESS, W C Marwing said when the horse had been successful at its two most recent starts, it had relaxed well in the run due to the solid tempo of those races. He said today's race was not run as quickly and because of this DAYLIGHT EXPRESS proved difficult to settle. He said near the 1000 Metres he was awkwardly placed close to the heels of TOUCH MORE. He said DAYLIGHT EXPRESS was obliged to travel in a three wide position today and in his opinion is better suited when travelling on the rail. He said as a result of the manner in which today's race was run, DAYLIGHT EXPRESS did not quicken after straightening and was not suited by the “sit and sprint” manner in which today's race was run. VICTORY MASCOT and DAYLIGHT EXPRESS were sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, VICTORY MASCOT was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse had an intermittent displacement of the soft palate. A veterinary inspection of DAYLIGHT EXPRESS after the race did not show any significant findings. HELENE ELITE and HOT SUN were sent for sampling.
