Racing Incident Report
QUALITY-QUALITY, Standby Declared Starter, was withdrawn on 27.1.09 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore). HOME TREASURE was withdrawn on raceday morning by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left front foot). Before being allowed to race again, QUALITY-QUALITY and HOME TREASURE will both be subjected to an official veterinary examination. OSVALDO, RICE FIELD, WIN-A-LOT and MELLIFLUOUS were taken back in the early stages. Despite being ridden along in the early stages, LOCAL POWER failed to muster speed and then throughout the race travelled wide and without cover. After the 1200 Metres, STREET CAT was steadied when crowded for room inside SOLAR ENERGY which when being steadied was carried in by MOMENTOUS (O Doleuze) which shifted in when not fully clear. PRESTO, which was racing to the inside of STREET CAT, was also crowded for room in this incident. O Doleuze was severely reprimanded and told to exercise greater care. Near the 1100 Metres, OSVALDO, which was proving difficult to settle, was checked away from the heels of STREET CAT which shifted out to relieve the crowding to PRESTO. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, KING POWER was left racing wide and without cover. In the early part of the Straight, MELLIFLUOUS had difficulty obtaining clear running. After the 400 Metres, SOLAR ENERGY, which had been held up and unable to obtain clear running, was steadied when disappointed for running between MEDIC FORTUNE and CHATER D’CAT. After this until the 200 Metres, SOLAR ENERGY continued to have difficulty obtaining clear running. Throughout the race, CHATER D’CAT travelled wide and without cover. M Du Plessis (FERRO BEAU) explained from an awkward gate he had been instructed to take his mount back on jumping. He said in accordance with those instructions after beginning well he took FERRO BEAU back to ensure it travelled with cover in an attempt to have the horse relaxed. He said FERRO BEAU travelled keenly in the middle stages, then in the Straight when closing the race off strongly hung in which resulted in him having difficulty obtaining clear running. He did say due to FERRO BEAU hanging in he was disadvantaged in riding his mount out and because of this he could not properly test it. STREET CAT was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of STREET CAT after the race did not show any significant findings. PRESTO and OSVALDO were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports from 28 January 2009 Race Meeting
RACE 10 - STREET CAT
STREET CAT, which performed poorly, was examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison. He said at that time there were no significant findings. STREET CAT was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer A T Millard this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in its left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, STREET CAT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
