Racing Incident Report
At the start, MASTER MASTER, which was fractious in its stall, bounded in the air at the start and lost a considerable amount of ground. ZERO GRAVITY began awkwardly and then took time to muster speed in the early stages. At the 1000 Metres, ZERO GRAVITY was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of ABLE STANDARD. At the 350 Metres, MASTER MASTER, which was closing the race off, was checked when disappointed for running inside REDHILL COMMANDER (M Du Plessis) which had been having difficulty obtaining clear running and at this time was shifted to the inside of SILVER WRAITH in an attempt to go forward. Whilst the Stewards acknowledged that M Du Plessis had stopped riding and endeavoured to straighten his mount, he was nonetheless severely reprimanded and told in similar circumstances he would be expected to exercise more care when shifting ground than he did on this occasion. For some distance passing the 300 Metres, SUPER IDEAL, which had been experiencing difficulty obtaining clear running, was checked to avoid the heels of COP HILL LAD which at this time became unbalanced behind. At the 100 Metres, TIMBER CITY and ABLE STANDARD were steadied when crowded for room inside REDHILL COMMANDER which was continuing having difficulty finding clear running and at this time shifted towards the inside of ZERO GRAVITY and then was carried in further by that horse. No action was taken. Throughout the race, ELEPHANT STAR travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, K T Yeung (SUPER IDEAL) said he had been advised the horse had a big stride and therefore would be best suited if able to close the race off wide on the track in an attempt to ensure it had uninterrupted running. He said in the early stages SUPER IDEAL did not muster speed despite being ridden along and as a consequence he travelled in a rearward position. He said approaching and passing the 600 Metres SUPER IDEAL was inclined to lay in and he remained racing away from the fence to ensure he was able to shift his mount towards the outside in the Straight. He said as a consequence of this MASTER MASTER was able to improve its position on his inside. He said rounding the Home Turn he was held up and unable to improve when following SOUND OF SILENCE and racing inside GRAND GENERAL, then when ridden along in the early part of the Straight SUPER IDEAL responded nicely to his riding until again having difficulty obtaining clear running passing the 300 Metres. He said in the Straight SUPER IDEAL continued to hang in. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of ABLE STANDARD, C K Tong said he was instructed to ride his mount which was stepping up in distance today to 1400 Metres in a forward position. He said he rode his mount along in the early stages in an endeavour to carry out his riding instructions. He said ABLE STANDARD raced without cover behind the lead. He said approaching the Home Turn he improved his position to join the leader, then in the Straight ABLE STANDARD failed to finish the race off. Mr K W Lui, trainer of ABLE STANDARD, said in his opinion the track work of the horse leading into today’s race was good. He said he believed ABLE STANDARD would be able to handle the step up in distance today and because of this he gave the horse some chance in the race. He said in his opinion the poor performance of ABLE STANDARD was due to the horse racing without cover after being made use of in the early stages. He said ABLE STANDARD has performed best when racing with cover. He indicated if a race is available, he will now drop ABLE STANDARD back in distance to 1200 Metres for its next start. ABLE STANDARD was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of ABLE STANDARD after the race did not show any significant findings. Mr Lui was told the performance of ABLE STANDARD was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, ABLE STANDARD will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. REDHILL COMMANDER and ZERO GRAVITY were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of REDHILL COMMANDER after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, ZERO GRAVITY was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, ZERO GRAVITY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. NAMJONG SKY and GRAND GENERAL were sent for sampling. <1/12/2008 Additional Veterinary Reports > REDHILL COMMANDER, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. REDHILL COMMANDER was again examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison at the stables of Trainer P O’Sullivan this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in its left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, REDHILL COMMANDER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
